Fleur Delacour (born c 1977) is a fictional character from the Harry Potter series of books. She first appeared in the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and later appeared in the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and will almost certainly appear in the Unnamed seventh book.

Her name comes from the French phrase fleur de la cour, meaning "flower of the court" or, according to J. K. Rowling, "noblewoman."

In the fourth film Delacour was played by Clémence Poésy.

An alumna of Beauxbatons Academy in France, Delacour is a talented witch, powerful enough to be selected as a champion in the prestigious Triwizard Tournament. She is capable of speaking fluent English, albeit with a strong French accent.

Her stunningly beautiful looks are in stark contrast to her often arrogant and snooty attitude. Her mannerisms so infuriate some of her fiance's family that an in-joke among their younger members is to refer to Fleur as 'Phlegm'. Still, she is rarely rude or aggressive to those with whom she is in direct contact.

Delacour has a younger sister Gabrielle, (born c 1987). Their grandmother was a veela, making Fleur at least one quarter veela. This heritage accounts for her fair hair, skin and eyes, and apparently her ability to entrance men. This could put her in danger from Voldemort and his followers, as they have a strong prejudice against non-purebloods. She is engaged to Bill Weasley, the elder brother of a friend of the central character in the Harry Potter stories.

Delacour's wand is nine and a half inches, inflexible, made of rosewood and contains one of her Veela grandmother's hairs.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Although a student at Beauxbatons, she was one of the delegation which attended Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament during her last year of school, and spent most of the year at Hogwarts. She often complained about Hogwarts, and spoke out against the idea of Harry becoming the fourth champion, insisting that he was too young.

During the second task she attempted to rescue her sister from the lake, but she failed. Harry Potter rescued her instead, and Delacour, badly shaken by the event, became much warmer to him and to Hogwarts in general.

Delacour came in last in the Triwizard Tournament, but as it was heavily manipulated by Voldemort through Barty Crouch Jr. (particularly in the third task, when Barty stunned her not long after she had entered the maze), she was not able to express her abilities to their full extent.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it was mentioned that Fleur has taken a job at Gringotts bank, and it is jocularly implied that she is pursuing a romantic relationship with co-worker Bill Weasley, who she eyed with great interest when they first met in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, they are revealed to have become engaged. When not working at Gringotts she spends time at The Burrow so that she can get to know his family. His mother, Mrs Weasley dislikes Delacour, and Delacour makes little effort to impress her soon-to-be mother-in-law. Bill Weasley's younger sister speculates that Mrs Weasley had wanted Bill to fall in love with family friend Nymphadora Tonks. Bill Weasley's younger brother Ron, was, among the stories' central characters, particularly affected by Delacour's veela charm in Goblet of Fire, and continues to like her.

Delacour gains significant ground in the opinion of Mrs Weasley after Bill suffers disfiguring injuries while fighting for the Order of the Phoenix. When Mrs Weasley assumes that the wedding is off, Delacour takes offense, criticising both the idea that she would not wish to marry him, and that his feeling may have changed towards her because of possible werewolf contamination. In fact, she takes pride in his wounds as living proof of his valour, although reminds the reader of her previous attitude in stating that she is good looking enough for them both. Her relationship with Mrs Weasley seems to immediately improve after this, with Mrs Weasley responding to Fleur's offense by offering a family heirloom for her wedding dress.

It is revelead that, back home in France, Gabrielle Delacour still considers Potter a hero, because of his rescue attempt at the lake. It is implied that she may have a crush on him as well.

In the future

It is suggested in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that Bill and Fleur will be married near the beginning of the seventh Harry Potter book. Delacour wants both their younger sisters to act as bridesmaids, and Mrs Weasley offers to obtain a beautiful, goblin-made tiara from her great-aunt Muriel for Delacour to wear at the wedding.

On film

A number of changes are made in presenting Delacour on the big screen. Most notably, there is no explicit mention of her veela heritage (although it was mentioned in accompanying promotional material). She appears to lack many of the physical and magic attributes of the veela. She also no longer vocally opposes Potter's inclusion in the tournament.
