In Barbarella

The device has been invented by the evil opponent of Barbarella. Near the end of the movie he incapacitates Barbarella and places her in the device—it resembles a reclining lounge covered with movable finger-like paddles that operate to gently and pleasurably massage the victim. It is operated from a keyboard resembling that used to control a large organ. By properly manipulating the keys the operator may induce great sexual pleasure in the victim, sufficient to cause death by orgasm (a purely fictive concept for those in good health). In one of the final scenes of the movie the evil opponent is torturing Barbarella with the pleasures of this machine, during which she vocalizes extensively ("oh", "ooh", "ahh", etc.). Barbarella successfully overloads the machine and survives.

As it is a (potentially) remotely controlled machine it may be considered to be in the general classification of teledildonics, itself a specialized form of haptics.

In Sleeper

The orgasmatron is also a device in the Woody Allen movie Sleeper. It is an orb about the size of a grapefruit that contains some (otherwise undescribed) future technology When the orb is touched by a human it induces pleasurable erotic sensations. In the fictive future society it is required for people to have orgasms in the culture depicted in that movie—all humans being impotent or frigid.

The main character, played by Allen, is being hunted by the police as being subversive to security of the state and must escape from a location where a party is ongoing. He takes as his disguise a tuxedo, paints his face white, and places in his mouth the top of a salt shaker, and so resembles one of the several robotic servants at the party. As such, he is ordered by the host to pass the orgasmic orb among the guests. Unlike the robots he is imitating, he is not insensate to the effects of the orb. Much physical humor results from his reaction to firmly holding this device, which party participants only lightly caress.
