Irving Rubin (1946-2002) became the chairman of the Jewish Defense League in 1985.

Rubin was arrested in California in 2001 and charged with plotting to bomb a Culver City mosque. In November 2002, while in prison in Los Angeles, he died, reportedly by cutting himself with razors and jumping off a balcony.
