Template:In-progress tvshow Template:BbSpoiler Template:Big Brother housemates The seventh season of the American version of Big Brother premiered on July 6, 2006.[1] A preview episode aired on June 21 offering twenty former contestants from past seasons as candidates for the this season.[1] After the preview show, internet voting opened to the public with the promise that the top six vote getters would enter the house, with another six to be chosen by the producers. On the first episode, it was revealed that due to a high amount of voting, the top four male and top four female vote-getters would be admitted, as well as the six producer-chosen contestants, bringing the total cast up from twelve to fourteen. The premiere episode scored 7.69 million viewers, down from last year's average for the show.

The competition will be similar to the recent prior seasons, with Head of Household (HoH) and Golden Power of Veto competitions, houseguests being nominated for eviction, and one member of the cast being voted out of the house by his remaining peers each week. An early twist, announced on the premiere show, is the double HoH position. Also, host Julie Chen has started to refer to the contestants as housemates, rather than in previous seasons, in which she called them houseguests. The last remaining houseguest will win US$500,000. The runner-up will receive $50,000.

Companion internet talk show House Calls has been renewed for this season. Because former co-anchor Marcellas Reynolds is currently in the house, host Gretchen Massey now hosts the show with a new guest each week. Each Friday, the evicted houseguest appears on the show (they are required to by their contract). Similar to earlier seasons of the show, 24/7 feeds are available for a small fee on CBS' webpage.

Houseguests

Like Big Brother 6, this year features fourteen houseguests entering the Big Brother house on Day 1. However, unlike international versions of the show, replacement or new houseguests have never appeared on any US Big Brother season to date. It's interesting to note that this season is tied with Big Brother 5 and Big Brother 6 for having the most Houseguests.

Alison Irwin

File:Alison Season 7.jpg
Alison in the bedroom

Alison Irwin was part of Big Brother 4, coming in second place to Jun Song. During her time on Big Brother 4, she faced competition against her ex-boyfriend, Justin Giovinco, who was evicted midway through the season. On her Big Brother 7 profile, she said that she was "dating a schmuck."[2] She was nominated on week one, with Jase believing that she was "too much of a player."[3] Alison had also lied numerous times, and eavesdropped on other houseguests. Many on the live feeds suspected she was hiding in a vase to spy on other houseguests, however she admitted to the contrary on House Calls that Will asked to see if she could fit (as a joke) and she simply fell asleep knowing she would not be seen by the cameras. She was evicted on week one, by a vote of 8 to 2. Only Diane and Nakomis voted to evict Danielle.

Danielle Reyes

File:Danielle Season 7.jpg
Danielle in the Diary Room

Danielle Reyes (born January 22, 1972) is a property manager from Vacaville, California, married with two daughters. She was a houseguest in Big Brother 3, the runner up to Lisa Donahue, who was eligible to enter the all-star house, but failed to do so. Danielle admitted in her voting video that she wanted redemption this season for losing season three. She and Jason Guy formed a secret alliance during that season, thus, she was never nominated when it came time to evict a housemate. In one of her most remembered scenes, she impersonated every houseguest in the Big Brother 3 house in a Diary Room scene. On Day 1 in the seventh season, she and Marcellas said that they could not look at each other in the eye. Co-Head of Households Jase and Janelle nominated her on week one, saying that her game was too intense.

Diane Henry

File:DianeDiaryRoom.png
Diane in the Diary Room

Diane Henry (born March 1, 1982 in Euless, Texas) is a 24-year-old model and actor currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Diane was a houseguest in Big Brother 5. She came in third place, with only Michael "Cowboy" Ellis and Drew Daniel going farther in the game. In Season 5, she was romantically involved with Drew, who, interestingly, chose to evict her later in the game. Also of mention is that she has changed professions from the time she was previously in the house. During Big Brother 5, she was a cocktail waitress from Burlington, Kentucky. Her mother, Debbie, has been supportive of her endeavours on the show, saying, "I love every minute of it."[4] Lately, many people who watch the 24/7 live feeds have noticed that she is hard to spot, being reserved and quiet. Diane has kept under-the-radar, being quite quiet, with few mentions on the premier episode. It is this kind of strategy that earned her Kaysar's nomination on Week 2, as he claimed it was his goal to target "floaters" within the game's boundaries. She was nominated alongside close friend and ally Nakomis.

Erika Landin

File:ErikaDiaryRoom.png
Erika in the Diary Room

Erika Landin (born December 5, 1969) is a 36-year-old pilates instructor from Chicago, Illinois. She was a contestant on Big Brother 4, where she came in fourth place. In Season 7, there is a common dislike among her and Alison, who chose to evict Erika back in Season 4. Houseguest Diane has shown a great disdain for her, saying that she did nothing to earn a stay in the Big Brother 7 house.[5] At times, she has instructed pilates lessons for the houseguests in the backyard of the house. Another contestant, Marcellas, has compared Erika's gameplay to that of Amber Mariano in Survivor: All-Stars, as she is playing under the radar. Because Amber went on to win Survivor: All-Stars, Marcellas feels as though Erika should be closely watched. In week 2, Erika won the power of veto, but did not use it to save the nominees.

George Boswell

File:GeorgeDiaryRoom.png
George in the Diary Room

George, also known as "Chicken George," was the only Big Brother 1 houseguest eligible to enter the Big Brother 7 house, and was also the last houseguest named. Unusually, he was the eighth male in the house (fourth chosen by the producers), and therefore there was no even split of men and women entering the house, instead of a third woman chosen by the producers to enter. George is starting to be considered a threat to the other contestants since he may be brought to the end because most of the houseguests believe that he cannot win a competition. This is quite similar to Michael "Cowboy" Ellis from season five.

Howie Gordon

File:HowieKitchen.png
Howie in the kitchen

Howie Gordon (born January 7, 1971) is a 35-year-old from Chicago, Illinois. Howie is also an aspiring meteorologist. Howie was a houseguest from Big Brother 6. He came in fifth place that season, and was the last remaining male contestant. Known for his crazy and funny antics, Howie is usually considered a light-hearted goofball, with a very high popularity rating.[6] Howie and Will have been at each others necks, usually insulting each other, usually jokingly, but sometimes seriously. On his first days in the house, he noted very enthusiastically that he liked the variety of "boobies" in the house, as he confessed in the Diary Room, wearing a "Thanks, Julie" tee-shirt, a pun on the host, Julie Chen, who gave him his key into the house. Recently, many of the episodes have featured Howie and Will's arguments, with Julie discussing it on eviction night.

James Rhine

File:JamesBedroom.png
James in the red bedroom

James Rhine was a contestant from Big Brother 6, coming in seventh place overall. James is mainly known for winning the most Power of Vetoes of any houseguest in Big Brother US history. In his contestant profile, he admitted that one of his hobbies is "being an ass". While in season six, he had never won HoH, he won HoH in Week 3 of this season.

Janelle Pierzina

File:JanelleLounge.png
Janelle in the lounge

Janelle Pierzina (born January 10, 1980) is a 26-year-old VIP cocktail waitress. Janelle is another houseguest from Big Brother 6. She is a VIP cocktail waitress in Miami, but is originally from Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She came in third that season, losing to Ivette Corredero and Maggie Ausburn. During her time in the Big Brother 6 house, she was quite popular in the public's eye, winning numerous America's Choice prizes and having an extremely high popularity rating. In Season 7, she became co-HoH, along with Jase, nominating Alison and Danielle for eviction. She also won the Veto that week. Janelle usually refers to herself as a buxom blonde.

Jase Wirey

File:JaseHoH.png
Jase in the HoH room

Jase was a contestant from Big Brother 5. Extremely disliked by both viewers and houseguests alike during that season, he was voted out mid-season and the target of Nakomis's "Six-Finger Plan." Claiming he has learned his ways and changed, Jase is now a favorite among the houseguests in the All-Star House. He was the first HoH in both season 5 and in season 7. Despite wanting to take out fellow houseguest Janelle on the first week, he ironically ended up being Co-HOH with her. Together, they nominated Alison and Danielle for eviction.

Jennifer "Nakomis" Dedmon

File:NakomisBackyard.png
Nakomis in the backyard

Better known as "Nakomis," Jennifer was part of Big Brother 5. She is probably best known for her fiery coloured hair and for her unknown connection to fellow Season 5 houseguest Michael "Cowboy", only finding out they were related (half-brother and sister) in the house. She also famously invented the Six Finger Plan[7],otherwise known as backdooring, which has been successful to evict many housemates in both Big Brother 5 and 6. On her first day in the all-star house, Nakomis admitted that she was surrounded with beautiful people and that she was not a "girlie-girl." [8] During Week 2, Nakomis was nominated for eviction by Kaysar, who claimed to have nominated her because she is very intelligent, as well as claiming to have intended to nominate "floaters" in the game. On Day 18, Nakomis became the second houseguest to be evicted from the Big Brother: All Stars house.

Kaysar Ridha

File:KaysarLounge.png
Kaysar in the lounge

Kaysar Ridha (born August 10, 1980) is a houseguest from Big Brother 6. He was one of only two people in Big Brother US history to enter the house twice, the other being Amy Crews. Kaysar was the first Muslim-American in the Big Brother house. In an argument on Big Brother 6, fellow houseguest Ivette said that he had no respect for women, but it should be noted that Ivette was a member of an alliance opposing Kaysar's alliance, and that she was the only contestant to make such claims. Kaysar has been one of the most popular houseguesets of all time, with a popularity of 93% at one point during Big Brother 6. He has a large target on his back in Season 7, as he is not only perceived as arrogant by Mike "Boogie" Malin and Will Kirby, but he was of Big Brother 6, the season whose contestants are most numerous on the All-Stars roster. On Week 2, Kaysar won the Head of Household competition and chose to nominate "floaters" Diane and Nakomis.

Marcellas Reynolds

File:MarcellasDiaryRoom.png
Marcellas in the Diary Room

Marcellas Reynolds (born November 11, 1967) was a houseguest from Big Brother 3. He has been quite successful since, hosting "House Calls: The Big Brother Talk Show" with Gretchen Massey during Big Brother 5 and 6. In one of the most shocking moments during Big Brother 3, he decided not to use the Golden Power of Veto on himself,[9] and consequently was evicted. Host Julie Chen jokingly slapped him on the head during his eviction interview. He came in fifth place during season three. In Season 7, his obvious dislike of fellow Season 3 houseguest Danielle showed when he couldn't even look her in the eyes. So far, Marcellas has been providing some insights into previous houseguests, mainly ones from Big Brother 6. He has since said that the best looking man from that season was Michael, fellow houseguest Janelle's former love interest that season.[10]

Mike "Boogie" Malin

File:MikeLounge.png
Mike in the lounge

Mike "Boogie" Malin was a houseguest from Big Brother 2. Before entering the house in Season 7, Mike stated that he had plans for taking out old ally Will Kirby, but upon entering the house, he alligned himself heavily with Will once again, calling themselves the chill town alliance and in effect creating targets for them both. According to the official site, Mike is currently the least popular contestant in the house. [11]

Will Kirby

File:WillKitchen.png
Will in the kitchen

Will Kirby was the winner of Big Brother 2. He is sometimes called Dr. Will. Interestingly, he is the only winner of a previous season to be put in the all-star house, which he stated is a definite disadvantage. In Season 7, Will was deeply shocked and offended when he was not nominated by co-HoH's Jase and Janelle in week one, stating that he was too threatening to not be nominated. It is possible that Will was using his disturbingly dry sense of humor when he said he was offended.

Chronology

Week 1 and Week 2

Big Brother 7: All-Stars officially started airing on July 6, 2006. This year, twenty previous houseguests were eligible to enter the all new Big Brother house. Since June 21 of the same year, CBS had announced that twelve houseguests would enter the house: three men and three women chosen by America, and three men and three women chosen by the show's producers. On Day 1, however, Julie Chen shocked the houseguests with the first twist of the season. Two extra houseguests would enter the house, bringing the total of houseguests to fourteen. First, the top four women that the viewers chose entered the house (Janelle, Erika, Nakomis, and Diane). Next, the top four men that the public had chosen were announced - Howie, Kaysar, James, and Jase. Chen then announced the names of the six houseguests chosen by the producers, this time four men and two women (Will, Danielle, Marcellas, Alison, Mike, and George).

Upon entering the house, the contestants all congratulated each other in the forms of hugs and introductions. It was then when the houseguests gathered in the lounge for the first Head of Household competition that the second twist of the season was announced - there would be two Heads of Household for week one. The two would have to share the responsibility of nominating two housegusts for eviction. If the two HoH's failed to accomplish this task, their priviliges would be stripped of them, and consequently would be up for eviction. The houseguests walked outside to see their first competition, Falling Stars. Houseguests Janelle and Jase won. The two would have to share the HoH room, and nominate two houseguests. They nominated Alison and Danielle, completing the assignment.

On Day 5, contestants played in the Power of Veto competition. The Heads of Household, Jase and Janelle, as well as the nominees, Alison and Danielle, and the randomly chosen Kaysar and George competed in the challenge entitled "One Man's Trash is Another Man's Veto". It involved the players to dig through trash heaps made of props from priors season while covered in fish chum and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Janelle emerged as the victor, and opted not to veto her own nominations, leaving Alison and Danielle up for the vote.

On Day 11, by an 8-2 vote, Alison was evicted from the house. In the Head of Household competition "Alison Rules", which involved contestants guessing Alison's answer to true or false questions, Kaysar was crowned the new HoH. The houseguests later competed in the food competetion where they were divided into two teams. The losing team would have to suffer eating "slop" for the entire week. The winners of the food competition were as follows: Diane, Mike, George, Jase, Will, and Erika. The losers were: Danielle, Howie, James, Nakomis, Janelle, and Marcellas. Kaysar was exempt from the "slop" week because he was the current HoH. During the nomination ceremony on Day 12, Kaysar nominated a close alliance, Diane and Nakomis.

On Day 13 during the Power of Veto competition "Big Brother Golf Classic," Erika won the Golden Power of Veto, but abstained from using it to save either Diane or Nakomis. This is second time in a row that the Golden Power of Veto has not been used. Erika decided that she did not want to use the Golden Power of Veto because she did not want to "stir the pot."[12]

On Day 18, after an eight to two (8-2) vote, Nakomis became the second person evicted from the Big Brother house. This is the first time in US Big Brother history that the same number of people have voted to evict for two consecutive weeks, in this case ten people. Only Janelle and Will voted to evict Diane.

Strategy

  • Coming into the house, there were four houseguests who were on Season six, three from Season five and two each from Seasons two, three, and four, and just one from Season one. As such, the houseguests speculated that there was an inherent alliance between the returning members from Season six (James, Janelle, Howie, and Kaysar). However, James said, in the Diary Room, that he trusts Jase more than Janelle and Kaysar.
  • In the first week, Jase and Janelle both shared Head of Household duty. It was explained to them that if they could not come to a consensus over who to nominate, they would be nominated instead. Danielle proposed an idea to Alison that if Jase were to purposely disagree with Janelle so that they would be nominated, in order to get Janelle evicted. However, Alison immediately went to Jase, who rejected this plan, stating that it is incredibly stupid to go from the highest position (HOH) to the lowest (nominee), and the idea instead got Danielle and Alison nominated.
  • The rules of the Power of Veto changed once again. The Head of Household and the nominees play, but the other three competitors are chosen at random (unlike previous seasons where the HoH and nominees selected the other three competitors). This rule was made to decrease the chance of someone getting "backdoored".

House

This year's house's theme is "A House of Extremes". There are large neon flames in the lounge, gothic design features such as gargoyles, and in one bedroom, there is a tarantula cage. For the first time, the house will have a billiards table. Also for the first time, there are things to read on the house walls - definitions of words such as: love, hate, alliance, trust, honesty, decieve and dignity. The house keeps last year's two story idea, with a large Head of Household room, designed to hold two people. The spy screen has also been saved. There are also famous "Big Brother artifacts" hanging on the walls such as the Power of Veto Marcellas didn't use in season 3, the "X statue" from season 4, Howie's lightsaber from season 6, and the nomination keys of all the previous winners.
