History
Former Members
In 1995 Sweetbox released their first published song, "Booyah Here We Go", which was performed by Kimberley Kearney. The song was played in clubs throughout Europe but didn’t break the charts. A year later Sweetbox released their second song “Shakalaka”, performed by Decia Bridges, which obtained the #1 position on the NYC Club Charts.
In 1997 Tina Harris became the front woman of the group and their first hit single, “Everthing’s Gonna Be Alright”, was released. The single received placement in ten different European Top Ten charts and Harris was awarded two Japanese Grammies for the song. Later that year a self-titled album was published in 47 different countries (in some regions the album was released as Everything’s Gonna Be Alright). However, in 1998 GEO and Harris felt burnt out as a team and the group split up.
Jade Villalon
A year later GEO reformed the group with Jade Villalon singing and songwriting, the group quickly became a new and improved team. The band's music genre changed from club, r&b, and hip-hop to dance and pop that was mostly based on classical music peices, quite like what Japanese and other Asian pop genres were like. In 2001, Sweetbox's 1st album with Jade writing and singing, "Classified, was released in Europe and Asia. The album reached the recording sales certification gold status in Japan.
In 2002, Sweetbox released their second album with Jade, also the albulm titled Jade, in Asia. In Europe the single “Lighter Shade of Blue” also known as "Here On My Own", was released and took the #1 position on the charts for four consecutive weeks. In 2003, an Acoustic version of the Jade album was released in Japan, titled Jade - Silver Edition]].
In 2003, Jade recorded the songs "Real Emotion" and "1000 Words" for the English version of the video game, Final Fantasy X-2, under the name “Jade from Sweetbox”. The songs were included on the "Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission OST" as well as on the Japanese release of their fourth album, "'Adagio. Adagio was released in early 2004 in Asia and promotionally in Europe.
In late 2004 Sweetbox released two albums, After The Lights and 13 Chapters. 13 Chapters was an albulm which featured both some Adgaio and After The Lights songs, more-of what the 2004 concert was like, and After The Lights was the full albulm featuring no songs from Adagio.
At the beginning of 2005, Sweetbox released their first "Best of Sweetbox/Greatest Hits album in Japan to celebrate their tenth year, though it has only been Jade's 5th. It was celebrated with an all new version of the song "Everything's Gonna be Alright", the classic which Tina Harris originally made Sweetbox famous by, and this time, Jade re-did the lyrics and made it more of the sound of Sweetbox now.
A couple of months later the Best of Sweetbox was released in Europe, South Korea and Taiwan. Later that year the music magazine FONO crowned Sweetbox as the "No. 1 Cross-Border Artist” and two Sweetbox songs, “Addicted” and “Hate Without Frontiers”, turned to "World Without Frontiers", were featured in a Japanese commercial for the Subaru Legacy.
In late 2005, Sweetbox released a demo album, Raw Treasures Volume 1, which featured demos and unreleased songs from all of Jade's previous and upcoming albums. In 2006, Sweetbox released their albulm Addicted. As it quickly became one of Jade's most advertised albulm, it was released all over Asia and also in Europe. Middle 2006 will also see Sweetbox's first ever live DVD, a video of Jade's most succesful 2006 concert.
