Oklahoma City University is a large urban private university located in Oklahoma City, in the Midtown District. The university is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and offers a wide variety of degrees in the liberal arts and sciences disciplines. The university has more than 3,500 students, including undergraduate, graduate, and law.

OCU is the only Oklahoma institution listed in the top tier of the regional, master level university category by U.S. News and World Report magazine's "America's Best Colleges" issue.

OCU offers a wide selection of fine arts and theatre amenities. The university hosts many theatre, musical, and dance events for the community each year, including a Christmas event. The most recent addition to the campus of OCU is the world acclaimed Wanda L. Bass School of Music, in which guests can hear the Oklahoma City University Symphony Orchestra [1] perform the likes of Mozart and Beethoven and see La Boheme performed by the OCU Musical Theatre Company [2].

Amenities and Activities

OCU sits in the heart of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area near the Oklahoma State Capitol complex and is only five minutes from the excitement of downtown Oklahoma City. The campus is amid historic and cosmopolitan inner-city neighborhoods including midtown, Asia District, Plaza District, the Paseo, Heritage Hills historical neighborhood, and the GLBT area (NW 39th Street and Pennsylvania Ave.).

Also nearby is the N. Western District, popular with the creative class, with its rapidly developing Asian District. Opportunities for cultural enrichment and entertainment activities also abound on the OCU campus, including concerts, play performances, operas, films, sporting events, and seminars by world-renowned speakers and business leaders. Previous guest speakers to OCU include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, Nobel prize winner Elie Wiesel, poet Billy Collins, author Kurt Vonnegut, journalist Helen Thomas, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
