Synopsis
Template:Spoiler For nearly a dozen years, Dr. Alan Bulmer has practiced medicine. He's always been very good at it, but now it seems he can actually work miracles.
The first occurred during a routine examination: suddenly his deaf patient could hear. Then Mrs. Westin's malignant tumor simply disappeared. Obviously there's more than conventional medical skill at work here, but what? The mysterious power to cure lasts only an hour each day, and never the same hour as the day before. Once an ordinary family doctor in a small Long Island town, Alan Bulmer can now cure the incurable-and it's turning his life upside down: his practice is out of control and his marriage begins to crumble as he tries to cure as many people as possible during his daily "hour of power."
What Alan doesn't realize is that the wondrous gift of the Touch comes with a price. One man knows. His name is Ba and he has seen this before in his native Vietnam where the Touch is called "Dat-tay-vao." He warns Alan that "it is a blade that cuts two ways and will not be turned." But Alan, euphoric with his new ability to heal, isn't listening. Template:Endspoiler
