Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering (RVCE) is one of the oldest premier engineering colleges in India. It is a private engineering college located in the IT capital of India, Bangalore.

The institution is headed by Dr. S. C. Sharma, Professor in Mechanical Engineering. The college is best known for its placement facilities, allowing the best performing percentage of students to land the best technology jobs in India. Its students have secured jobs in many information technology companies such as ThoughtWorks, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Oracle India, Lucent Technologies, Novell, National Instruments, Huawei Technologies, Talisma Corporation, IBM, TCS, Intel, Yahoo!, Infosys Technologies, Siemens AG, Wipro Technologies, CTS, Tata Elxsi, L&T Infotech, EMC Corporation, Motorola and Cisco Systems to name a few.

The college is approved by the AICTE, Govt. of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visweswaraiah Technological University in Belgaum. The departments are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.

The college has a cosmopolitan crowd, a characteristic of the Bangalore city, and admits students from all over India.

Ranking

RVCE is the highest ranked college in VTU, Karnataka, and a very coveted engineering college in the CET through which students are admitted to colleges in Karnataka. The college leads the list in IT related education as per the ranking by The Board for Information Technology Education Standards (BITES) set up by the Government of Karnataka. The college is considered on the top ranked colleges of India and has also appeared in National News Channels for its Placement Records.

Academics

RVCE is a center for academic excellence and its students have been consistently achieving top ranks in the university. The college has a very competitive student population as a result of its preference in the CET examinations. Students have achieved high ranks in all of the branches of engineering offered at the college. This academic excellence has ensured the college a firm position as the top engineering college in Bangalore for more than a decade.

Student life

The college also hosts a large number of department fairs to improve student interaction. A new construction drive is bringing advanced facilities on-par with worldwide standards to the college. The college has a vibrant hostel culture which is reminiscent of IIT's with its own ritualistic "buddy-life". The institution has actively tried to impose a "ban" on the ragging or hazing of freshman students by the seniors. The college does not allow student bodies or unions. A newly built state-of-the-art computer-commons lab provides students access to the Internet.

Undergraduate departments

RV School of Architecture

The Department of Architecture is now an autonomous body with major freedom in setting course work standards. R V School of Architecture is widely recognised as the best facility to pursue a Bachelor's in Architecture degree in Southern India. This dramatic rise in stature over a period of a decade is often equated to the efforts of its mentor Prof K Anantha Krishna, a rebel-educationist-architect who is recognised across the management and student body as a tough taskmaster but a good career guide, although sometimes in a controversial way. The school is famous for trying to bring in a more complex and practical approach to its design syllabus. Efforts to start an active student-exchange program between students in Germany and Sri Lanka are in place. The school hosts talks and seminars by a number of leading and innovative architects and designers from across the world quite frequently.

Achievements

In a nation wide survey conducted by India Today, for the year 1999, R. V. College of Engineering holds its head high as one of the Top Ten colleges in the country
The college has a very good cricket, badminton and chess teams. Students have regularly won laurels at university level competitions. Padma Shree Mr.Anil Kumble, Arjun awardee Mr. Chetan Baboor and prominent sports journalist Siddhartha Vaidyanathan are distinguished alumni of RVCE.
Ms. Vijaylakshmi Bidari, IAS topper in the 2000-2001 Civil Services batch is an alumna of RVCE.
Many RVCE students gain admissions to the best of master's programs in the best of universities, Big names such as USC,Carnegie Mellon university, Stanford University, UT Austin, U Mich Ann Arbor etc
A number of RVCE students go on to study in some of the best management institutes in India such as the IIMs, XLRI & the Indian School of Business.
The college has one of the most aggressive placement cells in India and students have got job offers at par with the IITs. The highest pay package offered till now is 7.5 L P.A by Yahoo! An aweinspiring 795 offers have been made to students in the current academic year , with over 100 organizations coming to the campus for placements!!!
Some of the companies which come for placements are: Cisco , Microsoft, Oracle, Delloite consultancy, National Instruments, Informatica, Yahoo! ,Fidelity Investments,TCS, INFOSYS, CTS, Wipro, caterpillar, ashok leyland, ABB and the list goes on.
Project works carried out by the students are appreciated and acclaimed by the Industries, Senior Professors and Researchers in the respective fields. Some projects have also won awards at state level competition.
Staff and students have been publishing / presenting papers of their work at National and International Seminars and Conferences
The college has won many awards and laurels, for conducting blood donation camps
Leadership and personality development programs are organized regularly
The NSS unit is successful in carrying the message to the rural mass and taking active part in all-round developmental programs in nearby villages
SKIP - Centre for Social Service and Skill Promotion has been working since 5 years to help rural community and school dropouts
"Kriya Kalpa", a technological museum devoted to the Indian contribution to the engineering sciences
RVCE CSE Dept. has highest number of ranks in VTU to its credit. With 7 Ranks bagged in 2002 & 6 in 2003.
RVCE has one of the best if not the best debating society in India, the society has won the "BEST NEW TEAM" award and a "BEST NEW SPEAKER" award when they went to the Asians at Kuala Lumpur

Hobby Clubs

RVCE encourages special interest groups and hobby clubs. Some of the active clubs are:

RV Quizcorp is the Quiz club of RVCE. It is also the largest college level quiz club in India (soon to have its own entry in Limca book of records). It conducts India's largest college quiz fest "Under the Peepal Tree" each year.
Raag - The Youth Club of RVCE. This young forum of energetic students take care of various activities in college like holi, diwali and so on. Apart from these they also come out with leisure magazine called CRAP!. Recently they also started the free press journal. Raag is completely run and managed by the student community.
The Rotaract Club of RVCE is very active in organizing blood donation camps and other social activities.
Vritanth is the IT Association of RVCE.
Elektron is the Electrical & Electronics Club of RVCE.
TeleTronic Club is the Telecommunication Club of RVCE. It publishes the newsletter 'Sanchar'
The Circle for Acting in RV - CARV is for the theatre fanatics.
The Debating society of RV - DEBSOC is one of the foremost debating societies in Asia. Its members have represented India at the Asian debating championship held at Kuala Lumpur. At the event they won the "best new team" award.
