Saidapet is a suburb of the city of Chennai, India. Mambalam, Guindy, KK Nagar are its neighbour suburbs. A subway joining Alandur road and Mount Road has been constructed recently. This has made life easy for the residents by providing easy access to Mount Road, the arterial road in Chennai. Saidapet is largely a residential area with very less number of shopping places but slowly acquiring some decent sized shopping places although not comparable to tnagar longway from it.There is a small eatery organised by local business people on the back of police station.Mari hotel located centrally in saidapet is famous Saidapet Vadakari.Residents ride th[Chennai suburban railway|train]] to nearby T Nagar, which is one of the best places for shopping and dining in Chennai city.It had a large weaver population and handlooms were in operation as late as 1990 maybe even now.It was quit notorious for filariasis in the olden days.

There is a suburban railway station for Saidapet.The next station towards the north is Mambalam and Guindy towards the south. Saidapet has a bus terminus located on Mount Road.This part of Saidapet is the eastern part.As we enter the Karunanidhi Arch (looks like two hills with sun rising between them), we come to West Saidapet.This part of Saidapet is located near the Adyar river.It has healthy mix of people from different strata of the society rich to poor.It has Teachers college which is a quite famous landmark.Kalaigna Karunanidi the present chief minister of tamilnadu was once elected from this constituency.It occupies an important place in tamilnadu politics being the starting place for election rallies

This area has many famous temples:

1. Karaneeswara temple - This temple lies next to the railway station. Has a 7-storied Gopuram with two prakarams. The main deity is Lord Karaneeswara and Goddess Swarnaambikai. This temple has a beautiful tank. Annual ten day brahmotsavam takes place in the month of Chithirai. Details are as follows: (Day - Morning - Evening) 1-Dwajarohanam-Maavadi sevai 2-Soorya prabhai-Chandra prabhai 3-Adhikara nandhi-bhootam 4-Purushaamirugam-Naagam 5-Pallakku-Velli Vrishabam 6-Thotti sevai-Yaanai 7-Thaer 8-Pallakku-Gudhirai 9-Thotti sevai-Bikshaadanar utsavam 10-Natarajar sevai-Kailasa vahanam/dwajavarohanam 11-Nil-Pushpapallakku

2. Soundareswarar temple - This temple is an ancient temple situated near the new subway. The Pillayar sannidhi of this temple (Varasidhi Vnayakar - facing west) is very famous. The main deity is Soundareswarar and Thiripurasundari.

3. Senguntha kottam Sri Sivasubramanya swamy temple - Situated in West Saidapet, the main deity of this temple is Lord Muruga. The annual brahmotsavam happens during the month of Maasi.

4. Sri Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal kovil - Popularly known as Perumal Kovil of Saidapet. The main deity is Lord Vishnu. Annual brahmotsavam takes place during the month of Chithirai. Details: (Day-Morning-Evening) 1-Dwarjarohanam / Soorya prabhai-Chandra prabhai 2-Hamsam-Kalpakavriksham 3-Garuda sevai-hanumantha sevai 4-sesham-simham 5-Nachiyar thirukkolam in pallakku-yaazhi 6-Managalagiri-yaanai 7-Thaer 8-Vennai thaazhi krishnan in pallakku-gudhirai 9-Choornaabhishekam-pushpavimaanam 10-thirumanjanam-pushpapallakku/dwajavarohanam

Vaikunta Ekadasi festival is very famous here. Lord Parthasarathy of Thiruvallikkeni comes here once a year during February.

5. Kadumbaadi chinnamman kovil - A very famous Shakthi temple in West Saidapet. Fridays of the months of Aadi and Thai are famous. Annual brahmotsavam takes place during the month of Aadi.

Saidapet has a very busy shopping market place called the Bazaar Road. It is famous for its fish market attractiing buyers from faraway places.Flowers street is known as the Ranganathan St. of Saidapet.

it has also got a anjaneyar temple on the banks of ayar which forms an boundary for this beautiful part of chennai
