Jan Jesenius (b. 1566 Wroclaw, d. 1621 Prague), son of Balthasar Jesensky (b. 1536, +1600) and Marha Schueller. Studied at Elisabethgymnasium Wroclaw and from 1583 at Wittenberg University, 1585 at Leipzig University, 1588 Padua University. From 1593 medician of Prince of Saxony; 1594 professor of anatomy at Wittemberg University; after 1600 settled down in Prague as professor and anatomical consultant for Bohemian king Rudolf II; 1617 voted for rector of Prague university. He was excellent diplomate and orator and after dethronisation of Habsburgs in Bohemia, he took several diplomatical missions for Bohemian estates or Directorium (cabinet) and for newly-voted king Frederic of Palatinate. After defeat of Frederic of Bohemia by Ferdinand of Habsburg, Jan was one of the 27 Bohemian noblemen executed at June 21, 1621 at Old Town Square in Prague (there's an Memorial with their names today).
