Thrippunithura is a satellite town south-east of Ernakulam Kochi City of Kerala state in south India. Earlier, it was the headquarters of Kochi Rajas. The Hill Palace Museum is situated near Thrippunithura. The Muvattupuzha town lies northeast. Vaikom lies southwest.

Thrippunithura is called the land of temples. The famous Sree Poornathrayesa temple is one of them. The town is also a center of learning for classical arts like Carnatic Music, dance and percussion instruments like the Mridangam and the local Chenda. One of the three Ayurveda colleges in Kerala is located in the town.

Sree Poornathrayeesa, the deity of Poornathrayeesa temple, is in the form of "santhana gopala moorthy" as told in the Bhagavatha. It is believed those worship him truly, will be blessed with children .So a lot of child less people come and worship Sree Poornathryeesa and there are enough evidence to prove that the above belief is true.

The derivation of the name of Tripunithura, is attributed to many stories. As per one, it gained the name from "being the land in the shores of Poorna river". Another story is that it is Poorna Veda Puri", believed to be the land of all Vedas. Still another story is that, when Arjuna visited Lord Mahavishnu , Mahavishnu Gave him an idol to worship. Arjuna put the idol in his Pooni ( a basket holding arrows) and serched all over for an ideal place to place it. Then he met Lord Ganapathi and told him to find an ideal palce for him. Ganapathi agreed and serched for it. Then he came across a place and being the perfect place , Ganapathi himself sat there facing east. After a while Arjuna came there and saw Ganapathi. He got very angry and he kicked Ganapathi and Ganapathi turned and sat facing south. Arjuna placed the idol facing east and worhsipped him there. It is also believed that the temple Thantri's family, (belonging to puliyannoor mana) is the next generations of the brahmana of the santhana gopalam story.

There are many other temples in and around tripunithura. One of the famous temples hers is Thamaramkulangara Sree Dharma Sastha temple, where the deity is Dharmasastha, in the form of Lord Dhanwanthari Moorthy.

One of the famous ceremony "Atha Chamayam" take place in this town during Onam festival.
