Originating in Columbus, Ohio, the Bush family in the 20th century became an accomplished political family in the United States. In January 2005, The Economist described the Bush family as the most successful political dynasty in U.S. history.

George W. Bush’s Grandfather and Great Grandfather helped arrange the take over of a company called Hamburg-America Line. Hamburg-America Line is a shipping company that brought Nazis to and from the United States. The Bush family continued to do business with the Nazis throughout World War II until there was a law passed called “The Trading With the Enemy Act of 1942”.

It was Great Grandfather, George Walker Bush, and Grandfather Prescott Bush who hired Allen Dulles. Allen Dulles later became the director of the CIA. His Brother John Foster Dulles was Secretary of State under Eisenhower, and they named Dulles International Airport after him. George Herbert Walker Bush, our current President’s father and former President, coincidentally directed the CIA also.

Prescott Bush reportedly dug up the skull of Geronimo when he was in an organization called “Skull and Bones” at Yale University. The Apache Native Americans wanted the skull back, but the skull given back wasn’t Geronimo’s. Even though George W. Bush knew the past of his Grandfather he joined Skull and Bones anyways. John Kerry was also a Skull and Bones member, so either way, they were going to take the Whitehouse.

Marvin Bush, current President George W. Bush’s brother, was a principal for a company called Securacom. Securacom did electronic security for The World Trade Center, Dulles International Airport, Los Alamos Laboratories, and United Airlines between 1995 and 2000. In 1996 Marvin Bush had 53,000 shares in Securacom stock he bought at 52 cents a share. In 1997 the stock sold for $8.50 a share. Marvin Bush was no longer listed as a shareholder by the end of 2000. In 2003 Marvin Bush’s babysitter ran herself over in his driveway with her own car.

Ancestors

Patrilineal line

Other notable relatives

  • Måns Andersson (d. 1677 ?), a Swedish immigrant believed to be among the earliest ancestors of the Bush family in North America.
  • George Bush (1796-1859), a biblical scholar who wrote a book Life of Mohammed, was a cousin of Obadiah Bush.

Native American ancestry

The Bush family is sometimes said to have Native American ancestry. Robert Bolling Jr. (a 10th-generation ancestor of George W. Bush) is the son of Robert Bolling and Anne Stith, whom Bolling married after the death of his first wife, Jane Rolfe, a granddaughter of Pocahontas. [2]

Another Bush ancestor, Austin Bearse, has been claimed to have married Mary Hyanno, a descendant of Wampanoag Indians. This assertion has been disputed for decades. [3]

Franklin Pierce (1804-1869), the 14th President of the United States, is related to Barbara Bush (née Pierce), the wife of George H.W. Bush (the 41st) and the mother of George W. Bush (the 43rd).

Kerry family

Edmund Reade (1563-1623) married Elizabeth Cooke (before 1578 - about 1637). They had two daughters: Margaret (1598-1672) and Elizabeth (1615-1672). Margaret is a direct lineal ancestor of George W. Bush and Elizabeth is a direct lineal ancestor of John Forbes Kerry, Bush's opponent in the 2004 U.S. Presidential election. Bush and Kerry are eighth cousins. (from Ancestry.com)
