Buoysel (ブイゼル, Buizeru) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise - a series of video games, anime, manga, collectible trading cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. Released only in March 2006 alongside Tamanta and Perap, it scheduled to appear in the movie Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea: Manaphy, as well as Pokémon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS. Buoysel is also in a short film called Pokémon Mischiveous Island along with Perap.

Buoysel is one of the many new Pokémon that will appear in the Nintendo DS games, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. As a Water-type Pokémon, Buoysel is strong against Fire, Rock, and Ground Pokémon, but is weak against Electric and Grass Pokémon. Buoysel is set to appear in the 9th movie, Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea: Manaphy. However, its role in the movie has yet to be revealed.

Its Japanese name is apparently a portmanteau of the words “buoy”, and “weasel”. Buoysel’s actual appearance is similar to that of an otter, which is in the same family (Mustelidae) as weasels. Buoysel’s English name is currently unknown.

Characteristics

Buoysel somewhat resembles a cross between a weasel and a sea otter. It possesses mostly mammalian traits, including paws and an orange coat of fur, alongside an unusually large donut-shaped collar adorning its neck, resembling a life preserver. The collar can, in fact, be inflated and used as a flotation device when the Pokémon inhales. It also carries traits of sea creatures, notably blue fins growing out of the Pokémon’s arms, alongside a tail that has split halfway in two, so that it is arranged in the shape of a fish’s tail fin. The tails function as a boat propeller by spinning. (compare with Tails from the Sonic series)

Little information besides Buoysel being a Water-type Pokémon has been released. Buoysel will be able to learn Agility and will have the Swift Swim ability. It also is #056 in the Shino Pokédex. Pictures from the website Serebii.net show Buoysel to be 0.7m tall and weighs 29.5kg. Buoysel will also be able to learn a new attack called Aqua Jet, a water based move that always hits first. It is presumed that Buoysel's speed rating will be incredibly high but this is simply based upon the fast hitting and speed raising moves and Swift Swim ability it is known to possess thus far.

In the video games

Buoysel will be one of many new Pokémon to make its first appearance upon the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS.
