Alanis Morissette

NPOV?

This page's current content is extremely inappropriately written, and filled with non-NPOV content. Lyric snippet's don't belong on a page about Morissette, they belong on individual album pages. Additionally, the writer pre-supposes to know which lyrics correspond with which part of Morissette's life, something which would really need to be backed up with references to Morissette sayingso herself. In all it's just extremely not-encyclopedic. That being said, I'm on my way out the door, so if it hasn't been fixed by the time I get back, I'll do it myself. 66.157.29.22 05:43, 22 Jan 2004 (UTC)

FWIW, I agree with your remark on the non-NPOV content 213.51.209.230 17:58, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Alanis album was Top 10 in Canada or US?

Credited simply as Alanis, Morissette's first album, "Alanis", was issued in 1991, and her first single, "Too Hot", reached the Top 10.

Where? Canada, or the US? --Robert Merkel

I think in Canada, but I don't want to change the entry without being sure.  :-) -- Zoe

I'm sure it was in Canada, for the album wasn't released anywhere else. --MTS

I'm also certain it's Canada --Zippanova 18:56, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm dead sure it's Canada, it wasn't released anyplace else. --koll2786

Image layout

For someone who knows about these things, the image Alanis4.jpg overlaps and obscures some text when viewed with Mozilla 1.5 Thanks! 207.189.98.44 19:56, 30 Dec 2003 (UTC)

And Alanis2.jpg also. The stated width of the floats (in the style= markup) didn't match the actual width of the images. I've fixed this, and cropped Alanis2.jpg so it doesn't take up so much space. Zack 20:17, 30 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Addendum: I also switched both images -2 and -4 to float:right. It isn't quite as artistic this way, but the section headings "Jagged Little Pill" and "So-Called Chaos" no longer look like image captions, which I think is more important. Zack

Buying So-Called Chaos?

Chocolateboy, I notice you've been making a lot of changes to this page too. Glad I'm not the only one! Planning to buy her new album, So-Called Chaos? Stoic Squirmer

Hi, Stoic Squirmer. Nice contributions you've made to that page! I may buy the new album. Haven't heard anything from it yet. chocolateboy 10:43, 18 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I learned so much thank to you

I love Alanis and her work since her first song.

I'd like to thank everybody who wrote this because it's really well done. I would have helped if it was no so complete...

I will try anyway...

Madonna

3rd Aug 2004

I love Alanis and loathe Madonna, and yet I think this article understates Madonna's influence on the success of Alanis through her company, not influence musically, but in terms of giving her a chance to be a success. Without Madonna I doubt we would have even heard of Alanis. I have made additions to this article that have intimated the significance of Madonna but over time they seem to have been removed or diluted.

Dave Coulier?

What is the source for the Dave Coulier claim? In these parts it's not Dave Coulier but former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Felix Potvin. This is more believable for a few reasons -- Potvin had a reputation for being a jackass, and he's closer to home (and I've heard more sources say it was Potvin). Anyway -- I can't provide a source for it for now so I say -- unless the Coulier connection can be independently confirmed, it should be struck. Rhombus 21:58 8 January 2025

I'm striking it. Most places I've looked say it's unknown who the guy was. If it was known, why would it be such a big deal? Source, please, one who adds such info. --AmyBeth 07:56, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't strike it -- Alanis admitted it was about Coulier in her interview with Howard Stern. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.57.122.221 (talkcontribs) .

The only sources I can find regarding it are accounts from people who supposedly listened to that edition of the show. --Jtalledo (talk)

Gay icons category

Anyone have a reference confirming the article's inclusion the gay icon category? --Jtalledo (talk) 20:48, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

She's got a lesbian following.

Harmonica type

Does anyone know what type of harmonica Morissette uses in her songs? 14-hole diatonic, 12-hole chromatic, 16-hole chromatic, or something else like the tremolo? —Lowellian (talk) 05:15, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

Star Search question

The article says: "In New York City, Morissette landed a spot on Star Search, a popular televised American talent competition"

Can this be updated to say how she did in the competition (good or bad). --rob 12:53, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing the image because it seems strange having two images from the same concert in the same position on the article. Extraordinary Machine 21:20, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gay icon category 2

I reverted the addition to Category:Gay icons again. I'm opposed to having such a category for the same reason I'm opposed to having Category:Sex symbols - they're subjective categories that run contrary to NPOV. Changing the lyrics to "Ironic" doesn't make her a gay icon. It might make her a gay rights advocate and I wouldn't be opposed to that category being used if it exists. --Jtalledo (talk) 01:16, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You learn...

... something new every day, I didn't even know who she was (other then an artist of course) until I read this, great. (P.S. I hate her music, good to know anyway) 213.89.140.71 16:28, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative to what?

I'm not so sure she should be considered an alternative rock artist. She's really just a pop artist who jumped on the "everything pop is alternative now" bandwagon that made alternative look like a meaningless phrase. -- LGagnon 15:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jumped? I'm not entirely certain she has claimed to be any kind of artist - genres were probably assigned by record labels and music journalists. --Jtalledo (talk) 21:15, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I dont know how you can say that Alanis Morissette is anything but Alternative Rock. She isn't 'pop' at all though. --LocalBandAid02 15:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
