Keeseville is a village officially located in Clinton County, New York, but part of the inhabited area is in Essex County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,850. The village is named after the Keese family.

The Village of Keeseville is in the Town of Au Sable, New York (Ausable, New York) and in on the bank of the Ausable River.

Geography

Keeseville is located at 44°30'13" North, 73°28'52" West (44.503688, -73.481087)1. Keeseville is just west of Lake Champlain.

The Ausable River passes through the village.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.10% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,850 people, 706 households, and 477 families residing in the village. The population density is 610.5/km² (1,584.4/mi²). There are 816 housing units at an average density of 269.3/km² (698.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.54% White, 0.92% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 706 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 24.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $32,813, and the median income for a family is $36,181. Males have a median income of $28,229 versus $21,500 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,939. 15.3% of the population and 10.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.5% are under the age of 18 and 9.9% are 65 or older.
