Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.

Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. is the debut album by the band Slipknot. Released independently on October 31, 1996, the album was re-released on July 13 1997 through -ismist Recordings. The album was a limited edition, with only 1000 copies released. Since the success of the band's self-titled second album, the record was distributed on the Internet through several file sharing systems. The CDs name is usually shortened to MFKR.
In 2005, the album was supposedly reprinted and available on Amazon.com in limited numbers. This release was actually a bootleg; the album has never been officially re-released. [1]
Though the basic elements of Slipknot's later sound are present, the album is substantially different to later Slipknot releases. Rap-influenced vocals are present, and the riffs are similar, but the album was recorded before many of the members of the current incarnation of Slipknot joined, and its sound is vastly different; almost incomparable to their later sound. Instead, there is an intense experimentation in the album, of Progressive rock, jazz, Funk and Meshuggah-style influences. Also unlike their later material, this album is not a nu metal album.
Several Songs from Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. were re-recorded and in some cases re-written for later albums. On Slipknot is "(sic)", which borrows only a small part of the lyrical structure of the song "Slipknot"; "Only One", which is a heavily re-worked version of the same-named track from MFKR; and "Tattered & Torn", which stays close to the original incarnation. On Iowa is "Gently", which also stays fairly true to the MFKR version, and the title-track, "Iowa", which borrows only the same riff as "Killers Are Quiet", "Confessions" is original version from the "Spit it Out" on the Slipknot and "Do Nothing/Bitchslap" is original version from the "Me Inside" on Slipknot.

Miscellanea
- The last 5:09 of "Killers Are Quiet" is a hidden joke track titled "Dogfish Rising", for which several people not in the band performed. There is the 2 Bonus-tracks after "Dogfish Rising":
- contrary to what this section used to say, "Purity" and "Frail Limb Nursery" did not in fact appear on MFKR or the self-titled digipack sent to roadrunner records, but were axed from the roadrunner debut after www.crimescene.org decided to sue, as "Purity" was based on a story from the site, and "Frail Limb Nursery" was a half-minute instrumental leading on to "Purity". the tracks were the 7th and 8th on the album, and with their removal, the album was reissued with "Me Inside" in place of these two tracks preceding "Tattered and Torn".
