General Motors A platform
Appearance
The General Motors A platform (commonly called A-Body) was a midsize car automobile platform. There were two entirely different A platforms.
1961
The first A platform was a "compact" (for the time) platform for the FR layout 1961 Buick Special, Oldsmobile Cutlass, and Pontiac Tempest and RR layout Chevrolet Corvair. It grew through the 1960s and 1970s as a rear wheel drive platform, finally to be discontinued for 1982. High sales, however, kept the platform alive as the re-named G-Body.
1982
The first front wheel drive A platform was built from 1982 to 1996. A-Body cars include the Chevrolet Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and Buick Century. The A-Body consisted of 4-Door Sedan, 2-Door Sedan and Station Wagon bodystyles.
