Bert McCracken
Robert "Bert" Edward McCracken was born on February 25, 1982 and is the lead singer in Orem, Utah-based band, The Used. They currently have 2 albums released, the first being 2002's self-titled album, and more recently, 2004's "In Love and Death".
Also, the Used released an album, "Maybe Memories," with ten songs on it. A few of these songs are live versions of songs on their self-titled album. The other songs are original songs that were not released on their debut album.
Background
Born in one of the strictest Mormon communities around, Bert had a happy home life as a child. He has three younger sisters - Melanie, Rachel and "Katie" and one younger brother, Joseph. As he grew into a teenager his views and his parents' views conflicted. Bert broke away from his home life at 16 by dropping out of high school and leaving home when he became a drug addict. He went to jail on the charge of possession. When the rest of the band (Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard and Branden Steineckert) were looking for a singer, Quinn remembered Bert and called him. He was still heavily into drugs, and was still going to Narcotics Anonymous. Bert got clean and after their first gig in January 2001, they were discovered by John Feldmann and signed to Reprise Records.
After releasing their debut self titled album in 2002, they toured with the Warped Tour and Ozzfest. On the May 27, 2003 Bert fell onstage during 'On My Own' and could not continue singing. He was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas caused by autodigestion of the pancreatic tissue by its own enzymes. The condition stems from alcohol abuse or gallstones. Alcohol abuse was denied by a spokesperson.
The Used began recording their second album in March 2004. They are currently recording their third album.
Bert McCracken is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL person. Yes, he has problems with drugs, and has been in jail, but eventually we will end up there, too. He is the most influential person anyone could know. His lyrics and voice are breathtaking and anyone who does not LOVE him, are a waist of breath. Really, people consider him a 'bad influence' when really, those people should listen to what he has to say, and who he is. He is who he is, and he truly is a amazing MAN.
