I've proposed that Hui be moved to Hui (ethnic group). See Talk:Hui. -- ran (talk) 03:08, Oct 15, 2004 (UTC)

Naming conventions

Standard Mandarin

I've proposed in Talk:Mandarin (linguistics)#Merging Putonghua and Guoyu that Putonghua and Guoyu be merged into Standard Mandarin. Please tell me what you think! -- ran (talk) 03:55, Oct 15, 2004 (UTC)

I've done the move; please put your comments on the new talk page. -- ran (talk) 18:20, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

Name change?

Would anyone have an objection if I moved this page to Wikipedia:Chinese topics notice board, Wikipedia:China-related topics notice board, or something along that line? -spencer195 17:43, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I was personally trying to go along the lines of WP:UKWNB, WP:IWNB, WP:AWNB, WP:CWNB, and a few others... -- ran (talk) 03:30, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)
Well, I agree with Spencer. The current name is quite exclusive. Note that WP:UKWNB is "UK Wikipedians' notice board" - could be "born in", "living in", "having origins from"... which the "Chinese" term conveys less, since with very few exceptions, only ethnic Chinese and people from recognized minorities can be Chinese nationals (at least in the PRC and HK). In fact, the current title seems more applicable to Wikipedia:Wikipedians/China and its talk page. olivier 10:22, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)
Okay, go ahead. But I'd prefer [[Wikipedia:China-related topics notice board or Wikipedia:Chinese-related topics notice board. -- ran (talk) 18:15, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

Cantonese

Come to Talk:Cantonese (linguistics) and discussion what Cantonese should mean: just the language of Guangzhou and Hong Kong, or all of the Yue dialects (Taishanhua, etc. included)? -- ran (talk) 20:40, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

Taiwan legislative election

Candidate lists have been published but they're in Chinese. I can't seem to find any English sources that have these names listed in English (other than what's already in the article). Is it possible to try to translate, given that the romanization is non-standard? --Jiang

China Collaboration of the Week

China is such a vast and interesting collection of topics - with only the smallest fraction covered on Wikipedia. I'd like to start a COTW - if I get enough supportive feedback here... --Oldak Quill 16:24, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)

 1. I'm in. -- ran (talk) 18:21, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)

 4. Good idea. (Wait a minute, I'm approving yet another way to waste more hours of my life on Wikipedia editing? Sigh.) Lowellian (talk)[[]] 06:46, Oct 25, 2004 (UTC)

The complete todo list

I've started Wikipedia:China-related topics notice board/Complete to do. Please populate it. --Jiang 01:51, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)
