Timor Gap

The Timor Gap is an area of ocean between Timor, Indonesia and Australia. After 15 years of military occupation, East Timor finally gained independence in 2002. However, they were yet to establish boundaries with its neighbouring countries, Indonesia and Australia. Negotiations determining the ownership of the tens of billions of dollars worth of oil and gas located on the seabed of the Timor Sea, known as the Timor Gap, have been long-running between the three countries, but despite reports of agreements being near, permanent maritime boundaries is yet to be maintained.
