Introduction

On every telecast, after a few seconds of opening celebrations and hype made by the studio audience and the show's DJ, the show opens up by announcer Cheena introducing host Willie Revillame (referred as "Wowowillie".) By then, the host and everyone in the studio sings along to the show's theme song.

Theme Song Lyrics

Sa Luzon, sa Visayas at sa Mindanao
Saan mang sulok ng mundo
Makakasama n'yo
Magbibigay saya sa bawat isa
At maghahatid ng kakaibang ligaya

Kadugo, kababayan at kapamilya
Sa bawat sulok ng mundo
Na may Pilipino
Ito'y para sa inyo,
Kinabukasan n'yo
Ang ibibigay naming papremyo

(shouts) Wowowee!!!

Wowowee, sinong di mawiwili
Dahil sa game na 'to ay di ka magsisisi
Wowowee, panalo ang marami
Pagkat walang talo sa Wowowee!

(shouts) Wowowee!!!

Sa loob at labas ng ating bansa
Saan ka man nagmumula
May pera o wala
Kasama ko kayo at pwdeng manalo
Ganyan kung magmahal ang kapamilya mo

(shouts) Wowowee!!!

WOWOWEE! WOWOWEE! WOWOWEE!

Afterwards, Willie greets hello and makes some opening remarks.

Interaction with the Audience Members

In this first segment, Willie (and sometimes his co-hosts, the announcer or one of the visible stage managers) goes to each section of the studio audience, says hello, allows some audience members to greet their family and friends watching (mainly the overseas TFC subscribers who came to see the show) and selects ten players interested in winning prizes in the "Bigat 10" segment.

It is also in this part of the show where overseas TFC subscribers donate money to Willie, where it's used to give to charities benefiting the poor and to give away as extra-incentive prizes to a deserving "Willie of Fortune" or "Pera o Bayong" player.

The background music played during this segment consists of dance remixes to "Beep Beep Beep Ang Sabi Ng Jeep", "Jok Jok Jok", "Bow Wow Wow", "Tango Boogie Cha-Cha", "Wankata" and "Puppy Mo Ako".

Willie of Fortune

Before the Game

Announcer Cheena introduces the two groups of three "Willie of Fortune" contestants that will be playing against each other. All players were selected in a contestant search session held at the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center the previous day. Then the first person in each group goes to the podium and prepares for "Questune".

Before each game, Willie conducts a quick candid interview with each contestant. Later, he allows him or her to show talent. In the past, contestants often danced, sang, recited poems or told jokes.

At the end, the contestant receives PHP1,000 in cash for their appearance. On some occasions, they are given extra gifts, like money donated from the TFC subscribers (over time, it ranged from $5 to $100), movie or concert tickets, or music CD's (most notably the Wowowillie CD.) Since the May 29, 2006 show, Willie gives an additional PHP500 to PHP1,000 to contestants who show more "extraordinary" talent.

Questune

In this game, each of three winning "Willie of Fortune" players can:

  • win PHP5,000 in cash.
  • advance to "Sinong Kumanta ng Kantang 'to?".
The Gameplay
  • Like the U.S. game show Name That Tune, the show's keyboardist plays a song and the player must buzz-in and correctly identify its title first.
  • The player wins one point for each correct answer.
  • If a player gives a wrong answer, his or her opponent can answer for that one point, correctly identifying that same song.
  • Upon giving the correct answer, for a one point bonus, the contestant must sing the lyrics to that song.
  • The first contestant in each group who earns 2 points wins an PHP5,000 and moves on to part two of "Questune".
  • The losing contestant gets a consolation prize from Bentong which are packs of Super Bawang Munchers, a Philippine snack from W.L. Foods, a sponsor of the show.
The Contestant Searches

For each show, except Saturday where it features celebrities, Wowowee contestant coordinators Mon Nazerino and Ace Vidanes look and group together contestants who work at a certain place or have an interesting hobby. Upon successful personal identification verification and selection, they are asked to come in on the day of their scheduled broadcast.

...and many, many others.

Sinong Kumanta ng Kantang 'to?

The three winning "Willie of Fortune" contestants from the last round play "Sinong Kumanta ng Kantang 'to?" against each other. This time, Willie asks the players to identify the artist who sings a song that's being played by the keyboardist. The contestant who buzzes in with the correct artist wins one point.

The first contestant to win two points wins another PHP5,000 and moves on to "Bigat 10".

Bigat 10

Before the start of "Sinong Kumanta ng Kantang 'to?", Janelle reveals the "Bigat 10" player who has a chance to play "Pasalog" secretly to the home viewers. Cheena introduces the ten "Bigat 10" players that were selected during the "Interaction with the Audience Members" segment.

The winning "Willie of Fortune" contestant in this round can:

  • possibly win up to PHP100,000 in cash.
  • advance to "Pasalog".
The Gameplay
  • The winning "Willie of Fortune" player from "Sinong Kumanta ng Kantang 'to?" starts with PHP75,000, where all the cash are stored in a money holder on top of the podium.
  • Willie calls two "Bigat 10" players to come forward to the podium and play against the contestant.
  • Willie then asks a trivia question.
  • The first person to buzz-in with the correct answer wins.
  • If the "Willie of Fortune" player wins, he or she keeps all the money.
  • If the "Bigat 10" player wins, he or she gets PHP10,000 from the money holder.
  • At the end of the segment, the "Willie of Fortune" player keeps all the money left and advances to "Pasalog".
  • BONUS: If the "Willie of Fortune" player eliminates all ten "Bigat 10" players, he or she wins an additional PHP25,000.

Before the segment was revamped on the June 26, 2006 episode:

  • The pot started at PHP50,000.
  • Willie called a "Bigat 10" contestant one-at-a-time.
  • The "Bigat 10" contestant won PHP5,000 for a correct answer (PHP3,000 from the pot, plus PHP2,000 from Willie. Before the week of January 30, 2006, the player received PHP3,000.)
  • If the "Willie of Fortune" player eliminated all "Bigat 10" players, their winnings are doubled to PHP100,000.
Bigat 10 Member to Pasalog

A randomly selected "Bigat 10" contestant, again chosen privately at the start of the "Bigat 10" segment, has a chance to win bonus prizes in "Pasalog". The selected contestant will know he or she will be playing for that chance if they hear a motorcycle sound effect as he or she walks up to the buzzer podium. By then, they must buzz-in and answer Willie's question correctly on the first attempt.

If the "Willie of Fortune" player wins, the "Bigat 10" player is eliminated as usual. Otherwise, the "Willie of Fortune" player goes home with whatever's left in the pot and the winnings from earlier rounds, and the "Bigat 10" player advances to "Pasalog".

Pasalog

In "Pasalog", the "Willie of Fortune" player has a chance to win:

  • cash from a progressive jackpot, starting at PHP20,000.
  • a Sinski tricycle or a Rich-O multi cab car.
The Gameplay
  • ASF Dancer Luningning brings in a beach ball that has two side-opening compartments, where one cube resides in each. The ball is then positioned on top of a holder.
  • Inside the left-side compartment, a six-sided cube resides where one side says "Jackpot". The rest of the sides are blank.
  • Inside the right-side compartment, another six-side cube resides where one side has the Sinski logo and a Rich-O logo on another. The rest of the sides are blank.
  • Willie asks the player to position both of those cubes.
  • Both compartments are then closed. The ball is then shaken up by the contestant and, sometimes, the audience. Then the contestant places it back on top of the holder.
  • The left-compartment is then revealed.
    • If the word "Jackpot" lands, the contestant wins the cash jackpot.
    • If a blank space lands, the player wins nothing.
  • Later the right-compartment is revealed.
    • If the Sinski logo lands, the player wins the Sinski tricycle.
    • If the Rich-O logo lands, the player wins the Rich-O multi cab car.
    • If a blank space lands, the player wins nothing.
  • If no one wins the progressive jackpot that day, PHP20,000 is added on top for the next show.

At the end of segment, the winning contestant keeps all the winnings from all the games.

On the July 27, 2006 episode, a "Willie of Fortune" player won the cash jackpot winning PHP260,000, the highest amount of money in Pasalog's history to date. On the next show, the jackpot was reset to PHP20,000.

On August 2nd, 2006, in a special version of "Willie of Fortune", they did not play for the Sinski or the Rich-o. They played for money instead. The contestants who played were close friends of OFW's who are working in Lebanon (still in crisis). During Bigat 10, only TFC subscribers played and allowed the Willie of Fortune contestant win PHP100,000 right away. During Pasalog, the left side had a block with 7 jackpots and 1 with nothing on it. On the right side, there was a chance to double that money. Eventually, the contestant won it and the special contestants who are about to play "Pera O Bayong" went happy and excited all of a sudden. This was also played again on August 5th.

The Ultimate Pera o Bayong

File:WOW2.jpg
A contestant wins a jeepney of W.L. Foods.

This final segment of the show offers a player a chance to win either:

The game has two parts:

Part One

The first part is an elimination round where 50 contestants (100 contestants on Saturdays), selected by the show-sponsored cell phone text contest, answer multiple-choice questions with three possible answers. Each answer is given a color section on stage, usually red, yellow and green.

After the question is asked and Janelle and Mariel say "go", the contestant stands on the color section he/she believed has the one correct answer. Contestants who are correct advance to the next question, while others are eliminated from further gameplay.

The rounds continue until one player is left standing. He or she then wins PHP20,000 and advances to the final part of "Pera o Bayong" to play for the grand prize.

However, during the rare moments where two players remain, if none of them have the correct answer, the game immediately ends.

Uwe? Hindi? (Leave or Not)

Since the May 27, 2006 episode, during the later stages of part one, Willie offers cash to each contestant in a color section and asks the question, "Uwe? Hindi?".

  • If a contestant says "Uwe", he or she accepts the cash offer and leaves the game immediately.
  • If a contestant says "Hindi", either:
    • Willie increases the cash offer and asks the question again
    • or the game continues as he or she stays in their color section.

In the past, Willie has offered contestants between PHP1,000 and PHP50,000 in cash and to leave the game.

Part Two

Willie opens the box.

In the final part, there are ten bayongs with different colors. Inside four of them contain PHP1,000,000 cash, a house and lot package, a taxi, and a jeep.

First, the player chooses three bayongs he or she believe has a prize in it.

Next with the three bayongs selected, the player chooses one them that hopefully has a prize in it. Afterwards, Willie calls in the two ASF dancers with the number cart, doing their mini dance and shouting the words "Love it!" Then, he calls in Milagreen to bring in the cart holding a prize bag containing all the prizes the contestant might win.

Then, similar Endemol's international game show hit Deal or No Deal, Willie offers cash in exchange for the selected bayong.

  • If the contestant says "Pera", he or she receives Willie's cash offer and the game is over.
  • If the contestant says "Bayong", Willie would either:
    • increase the cash offer
    • or reveal the contents of the bayong.

After the deal ends, the contents of the bayong's that contains a prize are revealed to everyone.

In show's history, Willie's cash deals have ranged from PHP50,000 to more than PHP300,000. It should be noted that "Pera o Bayong", especially the second part, is directly derived from RPN-9's Kwarta o Kahon (English translation: Money or the Box), which aired during the 1990s.

In a special August 2nd episode, usually if the contestants get the wrong answer to the question, they leave. Only for this episode, they had to sit on the stairs to watch the remainder of the game as it continues. During the last question before the 2nd round, Willie did not pressure them to leave the game or stay, like in the regular episodes. In the second round, the winner will only play for 2 chances to get PHP1,000,000. Willie offered the contestant over PHP250,000 to PHP300,000. The contestants and the TFC subcribers kept saying "Bayong" all the way, resulting in a win of PHP1,000,000. Afterwards, the contestants went crazy with more excitement by going on the stage and surrounding Willie and the winner(Similar to that of William, the 1st Pera O Bayong millionaire in Wowowee).

Previous Games No Longer Played

  • Act-U. A Philippine celebrity came out and did a little charade game. The contestant must guess two acts in 60 seconds.
  • Doblado o Sigurado (Double or Sure). The player had a chance to double his or her winnings from the "Bigat 10" round. First, Willie asked the contestant, "Doblado o Sigurado?". If the contestant said "Sigurado", the game was over and the player walked away with the winnings, plus a total of PHP11,000 collected in the previous rounds. However if the contestant said "Doblado", then he or she arranged 5 colored chips in any combination. On each chip, the front side is colored black and the back side is colored white. The arranged chips were then placed inside a secured box so that the studio audience can shake it. At the end of the shake, the box's contents were revealed. If the arrangement of the colored chips remained the same, the player walked away with the "Bigat 10" winnings doubled. If not, it was all lost. Keep in mind that if whether the contestant won or lost in "Doblado or Sigurado", he or she still got to take home the PHP11,000 won earlier in the show. This game was later replaced with Pasalog.
  • Guess Who? TV's surround the contestant and that very same celebrity tries to describe what is on the screen. The contestant cannot see the character described and must guess 2 to win.
  • Isang Talon, Isang Sagot (One Jump, One Answer) Each of the three winning contestants from "Questune" stood approximately two feet away from a buzzer podium. The co-hosts asked them multiple-choice questions. To answer, the player jumped to the buzzer and rung-in.
If the player answered correctly, he or she received one point. If not, the remaining two players got a chance to listen to the same question again and answer it for the one point.
The first person to score three points won an additional PHP5,000 and advanced to the "Bigat 10" round.
  • Kol a Kolokoy. The contestant chose someone from the studio audience to play against him/her (the Kolokoy.) The kolokoy guessed 2 to win and the contestant must guess 3 to win PHP5,000.
  • Pasalog (First Version) There was a box with left and right side components. On the left side, there was a cube where the value on each side contained either "0", "0", "5", "10", "15" and "20" written on it. On the right side, the cube had five blank sides and one sides with the Sinski logo on it.
The contestant then positioned each cube. After that, the box is closed and is juggled and shakened around the studio audience.
When it was done, the left-side compartment is revealed. Whatever is indicated on the top side of that left-side cube, the value is multipied by PHP1,000 and is awarded to the player. (For example, if it landed on "20", the player wins that additional PHP20,000. [20 x PHP1,000 = PHP20,000])
After that the right compartment is revealed. If the Sinski logo shows on the top side, the contestant wins a Sinski motorcyle.
On rare occasions, if the cube is positioned in a way that it doesn't show the top-side horizontally, Willie asks the finalist to shake the box again.
  • Rockboard. A contestant drew something on two boards, a scrolling board and the rock board. He or she had 30 seconds each to describe it. The other contestants must guess what were drawn in 5 seconds.
  • Touch Ako. In 30 seconds, opponents threw velcro balls to a player running across an arena. The player, wearing velcro suits had to avoid the balls that would stick on them. If ten balls were stuck, they were out.

Previous Wowowee Co-Hosts

  • Iya Villania (February 5, 2005-June 17, 2006) - Currently hosts a dancing show called U Can Dance, airing Sunday nights on ABS-CBN.
  • Kat Alano (February 5, 2005-June 17, 2006) - Currently is a video jockey for myX and Studio 23.

Wowowee Guest Co-Hosts

Occasionally, celebrities come by to join Willie or fill-in his co-hosts.

Wowowee Girls

The Wowowee Girls were the original game assistants and dancers for the show. The group was formed in late January 2005 for the February 5 premiere of Wowowee. The members were recruited from the Flawless Girls, The GoG!rls, Sexbombs and other sources. Host Willie started calling the girls "Bump Girls", but the name eventually was shortened to just "The Bump."

Later there was a second generation of Wowowee Girls. They were no longer called "The Bump" as that name was being dropped due to a controversial resignation of a group of original members. They were then known as the "Wowowee Girls."

The next development was a shock to the many fans of the group. Without saying a word, the group was completely dropped from the show. No explanation was given to the press. In fact, it was not even acknowledged on the show. On November 2, 2005, the ASF Dancers began appearing in their place.

A significant sub-group of the original girls have formed a new group known as "Secret!" or "The Secret Girls." The fate of the others was never known.

Remote Broadcasts and World Tours

During its run, the producers were able to take this show on the road and visit places around the Philippines and the world.

Philippine Remotes

In the Philippines, the last remote broadcast was in Dagupan City for its Saturday edition. The show was broadcasted live from CSI the City Mall parking lot back on November 26, 2005.

The contestants for "Willie of Fortune" were 6 celebrity models or dancers. With them were their audience partners the women hand-selected while in the crowd after the "Interaction with the Audience Members" segment.

TFC World Tour

Produced and organized by The Filipino Channel's World Tour program, Wowowee did an unaired live show in San Francisco, California, featuring Willie, his co-hosts Janelle and Cheena, and other ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel personalities on June 11, 2006. The last live show produced there was back in July of 2005.

Elsewhere, Wowowee visited New York City in October 2005.

It has been announced recently on the show that Wowowee will be doing another live show in United States on September 1, 2006. This time, the entire crew will be visiting Las Vegas. There is no word whether this live show will be televised on ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel for its regular airing.

Philsports Arena stampede

File:Wowow03.jpg
On February 4, 2006, Wowowee's first anniversary turned deadly as scores were crushed to death in a stampede. As a result, show organizers cancelled the show's first anniversary celebration at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City.

At around 6:30 (local time) on 4 February 2006, at least 74 people were trampled to death and more than 300 were injured when a stampede broke out at ULTRA stadium in Pasig City, where the first anniversary celebration of Wowowee would be held at noon. The crush began when the organizers of the show began handing out tickets to people in the crowd, many of whom had been camping outside the stadium for days.

Some sources indicate that the thousands of people lining up at the stadium's entrance panicked when someone shouted that there was a bomb [1]. Pasig City Mayor Vicente Eusebio said that the producers and organizers may be at fault for exceeding the stadium's capacity limit, especially with the number of people who were present in the area to watch the game show. Philippine National Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon blamed poor organization of the event for the tragedy.

As a result of the tragedy, ABS-CBN has decided to cancel the show indefinitely. Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, the company's chairman of the board, and Luis Alejandro, president and chief operating officer, has also promised to provide aid and financial assistance to the victims and their families. Movie and television personalities affiliated with the ABS-CBN Entertainment Group have also pledged assistance.

National Capital Region Police Office Director General Vidal Querol also established Task Force ULTRA, which conducted a preliminary investigation into the cause of the tragedy, at the behest of the Office of the President. However, the report became controversial as its credibility was compromised by personal statements made by the fact-finding team's head, DILG Undersecretary Marius Corpus. Corpus had likened the February 4 crowd to a "pack of hungry wolves", who were "exploited and manipulated" by the television network ABS-CBN for publicity and ratings. ABS-CBN chair Eugenio Lopez III and the network in general, publicly condemned Corpus' statements, with the latter apologizing in a press conference a day later.

Task Force ULTRA submitted its preliminary findings to the Department of Justice, which has found the report to be riddled with loopholes, lacking the necessary documents such as death certificates and sworn statements. Moreover, questions have arisen as to the composition of Task Force ULTRA, which included the Pasig City police force and the Pasig City Mayor's Office, two other entities who many believe should have been included among those being investigated, since the tragedy occurred within their area of jurisdiction. The DOJ has since handed over the report to the National Bureau of Investigation for further evidence-gathering, even as ABS-CBN called for a more impartial probe into the incident.

Alay sa Kapamilya

Alay sa Kapamilya was a program organized by ABS-CBN as observation for the stampede victims. It preempted Wowowee for six days until the network decided over the fate of the variety show. Eventually, ABS-CBN decided to temporarily cancel the variety show. Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Challenge assumed Wowowee's timeslot.

Pangarap at Tagumpay, Mga Kwento Sa Likod ng Wowowee

Before the March 11, 2006 relaunch of Wowowee, the show aired Pangarap at Tagumpay, Mga Kwento Sa Likod ng Wowowee (Dreams and Success, The Story Behind Wowowee) that dramatizes the success stories of the variety show winners. It is a five-episode drama package that airs from March 6 to March 10, 2006.

Monday's episode was on the life of JP, a former winner of Willie of Fortune.

Tuesday's episode featured one of the millionaires from "Pera O Bayong." Eula Valdez played that role of the millionaire.

Wednesday's episode was on the life of Edwin, a secruity guard whose wife was pregnant with their first child at the time. In the show's history, he was the second house and lot winner in the "Pera O Bayong."

Thursday's episode was on the life of another millionaire of "Pera O Bayong." She was working as a housemaid and the rest of her family lives on another island. After she won the million dollar prize, she was able to open up a store and she was able to spend some of the money for a pool table and a karaoke system so that the kids in the village would enjoy it.

Friday's episode featured Arjay, a former Willie of Fortune contestant. His girlfriend Jackie was pregnant and they were to be married on June 4th of last year. Arjay, mistakenly lost in round 2 (old Willie of Fortune format) to another contestant on purpose. Few days later, Willie said that a TFC subscriber wanted to give $400 USD to Arjay and Jackie for their wedding.
