Viswantha Satyanarayana(1895-1976): Known as "Kavi-Samrat", the emperor of poetry, Viswantha Satyanarayana is considered to be the last of true classical poets in Telugu. Born in the village Nandamuru( the same village is Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao(NTR); incidentally Viswanatha was his teacher), he was a towering presence in the world of telugu literature. An extremely gifted poet, he left no form of traditional literature untouched. His notable works were innumerable but the most popular works are 'Ramayan Kalpa Vruksham', 'Kinnerasani', 'Veyipadagalu'. He received the 'Gnanpeet' award for his immense contribution for telugu literature. The parallel movement of Telugu literature into easy prose criticized him as the bigot who hung onto the strict rules of grammar including Yati, Prasa and Chandassu. He once said the legacy of the classical telugu poet will depart with him which is what happened after his death.
