Silver the Hedgehog

Silver the Hedgehog is a new character in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. A new rival of Sonic's, he has been confirmed to be playable in Sonic Rivals as well as the 15th anniversary version of Sonic the Hedgehog.

History

Little is known about Silver other than the fact that in Sonic the Hedgehog, he has travelled from the future in an effort to find and stop the Iblis Trigger whose actions will cause a great disaster to occur. Silver apparently believes Sonic is this trigger. It appears Silver will be yet another rival of Sonic, backed by his confirmed playable apperance in Sonic Rivals(which features two other rivals of Sonic; Knuckles and Shadow the Hedgehog). Also, Silver's role in the story seems similar to how Knuckles was related to Sonic 3 & Knuckles's storyline.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Silver is completely different from Sonic. Silver's gameplay emphasizes more on exploration much like Knuckles and Rouge in the Sonic Adventure series. He is not as fast as Sonic and Shadow.

Unlike Knuckles and Rouge, Silver has a psychokinetic ability, and is able to mentally lift objects such as crates and drop them onto the enemy below. He can also use these abilities to block and deflect oncoming attacks, as well as perform his own version of jumping, which has him "hover" over large gaps which Sonic (and Shadow) could clear with ease with a simple jump. This technique appears to drain his "energy" bar, as may his other psychic abilities.

He can manipulate the environment too, thus expanding the playing areas. For example, while standing on the steel beam, he could bend it mentally and let it go, much like a springboard.

  • Yuji Naka has stated that Silver will be "young", it is unknown if Naka means he is physically young or simply has a childish nature. A recent interview states that he is young and a little immature[1]
  • Sonic Team was originally thinking about making Silver's personality similar to Shadow, however they did not want to have similar characters. He does, however have "a strong sense of justice".

Trivia

  • In an interview with IGN, Yuji Naka stated that Silver is white because Sonic Team was running out of colours to make their main characters, and that his official color is indeed white.
