Spike Dykes(born March 14, 1938) was the head football coach at Texas Tech from 1987 to 1999. He compiled a 82-67-1 record. He was the first coach in school history to lead the team to six-straight bowl games. He was the first coach to defeat Texas five times in school history. He has earned Big 12 Coach of the Year honors. He also earned Three Southwest Conference Coach of the Year honors. He is a 1959 alumni of Stephen F. Austin. He also served as an assistant coach at the University of Texas, as well as a head coach at numerous high schools.
