Adair County, Oklahoma
Adair County is a county located in the U.S. State of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 21,038. Its county seat is Stilwell6. Adair County was named after the Adair family of the Cherokee tribe.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,494 km² (577 mi²). 1,491 km² (576 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 21,038 people, 7,471 households, and 5,565 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (36/mi²). There are 8,348 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (14/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 48.52% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 42.49% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.25% from other races, and 7.45% from two or more races. 3.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,471 households out of which 37.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.10% are married couples living together, 12.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.50% are non-families. 22.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
