Xero Competition
Introduction
Xero Competition is an auto racing team based in Great Britain. They operate from premisis in Warrington, in the North-West on England. They currently compete in in the 2006 MSA Dunlop British Touring Car Championship.
Current Season
Adam Jones drives the team's Lexus IS 200, which has been upgraded from Super Production specification.
The team purchased two Lexus cars during the autumn of 2005, upgrading them from Super Production specifications, with the intention of launching a full two-car assault on the series. The cars had previously been raced in Production form in Holland
The program was initially suspended in Spring 2006, as the team had failed to secure sufficient backing to allow them to compete in the series.
However, in the weeks following the opening rounds at Brands Hatch, the team agreed a deal with Adam Jones, with significant sponsorship from engineering firm Air Cool Engineering.
The team made their debut in round three at Oulton Park, and although they have had a number of problems with the car, they scored their first ever BTCC points at Donington Park (on July 29/30), where Adam Jones finished in 10th place in race 2.
After a modest start to their season, Xero Competition have made major steps forward in understanding their car in recent meetings.
The team hopes to expand to two-cars before the end of the year, with Pick-Up truck racer Mark Jones in contention for the second car. He carried out extensive winter testing with the car, and has recently carried out further development work at Oulton Park alongside Adam. The two drivers are unrelated.
The team has temporarily withdrawn from the series to concentrate on development work on the Lexus. They plan to return at Knockhill, on the first weekend of September.
Pre-BTCC History
Xero Competition have been represented in a number of national British motorsport championships before graduating to the BTCC in 2006.
They entered Chevrolet Corvette's in the NGT Class of British GT Championship in 2005, but withdrew after the opening rounds due to financial problems. The team had struggled to be competitive in the series.
Xero Competition have also fielded cars in various Radical series, and have continued to do so this season alongside the British Touring Car programme.
