The Ca' Foscari University of Venice (Italian Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, UNIVE) is an Italian university.
It takes its Venetian name from the university building, the Ca' Foscari (the Foscari house or palace), on the Grand Canal, between the Rialto and San Marco. This palace was the seat of the Royal Higher Commercial College, founded on August 6 1868 as Italy's first higher education institute to deal with economics and commerce. The idea of establishing such a school arose after the annexation of the Veneto to Italy in 1866, and was particularly promoted by Luigi Luzzatti. The College was the first institute of its kind to have as its primary objective the training of businessmen, but also to serve as a training college for secondary school teachers of commercial subjects.
The institute became a university in 1968. It currently has four faculties. The University has around 10,000 students, and is also known as simply Università Ca' Foscari.
Organization
These are the 4 faculties in which the university is divided into:

- Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature

The Venice University Sports Centre (Venice CUS) offers university students the possibility to participate in a wide variety of sports in the facilities at Calle dei Guardiani: judo and personal defence, aerobics and other kinds of gymnastics, fitness, volleyball, basketball, tennis, handball and five-aside-football. There is also a sauna.
In the city centre and on the mainland there are also the facilities for rowing and voga alla veneta, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, golf, horse riding, free climbing and swimming.
It is also possible to use the sports centre at S. Giuliano for athletics.
The CUS also offers university members the possibility to take part in summer and winter camps. They also organise interfaculty tournaments of football, volleyball, basketball, tennis and five-a-side football.
