Nonpoint is a four-piece music group from Miami, Florida. The band consists of two Latin Americans (vocalist Elias Soriano and drummer Robb Rivera) and two Caucasians (guitarist Andrew Goldman and bassist KB). On almost every album they have recorded, Soriano (a native of New Jersey) sings and raps in Spanish, although the vast majority of Nonpoint's lyrics are in English.

History

Nonpoint formed in 1997 in Miami, Florida. The name "Nonpoint" is derived from "Nonpoint Factor", which was the name of the outfit that Robb Rivera fronted in Puerto Rico before moving to South Florida.

Nonpoint gained notoriety by becoming king of South Florida's then burgeoning metal scene. They often played with local bands Darwin's Waiting Room, Puya, Endo and Groovenics – all of which later signed with major labels.

Nonpoint's first album, Separate Yourself, was released independently in 1997 and was followed by 1999's Struggle and 2000's Statement. After several tours with artists such as Sevendust, Linkin Park and Staind, the band stepped back into the studio and returned in the summer of 2002 with Development. The band spent the following year touring extensively, most notably making an appearance at Ozzfest and WKRLs K-Rockathon. They released Recoil in 2004, a 13-track album that included a cover of the Phil Collins hit, "In the Air Tonight".

Their fifth major album To the Pain was released November 8, 2005. The first single of the album, "Bullet With a Name", reached the Top 5 of the most played new songs in its first week of release – in October 2005. The album has so far sold over 50,000 copies in the US, re-igniting Nonpoint's career under independent label, Bieler Bros. Records. "Alive and Kicking" was the second single released.

Beginning in late 2005, they began touring North America with Sevendust, later concluding the highly successful three month tour in New Hampshire. They will be filming their April 29th show in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a live CD/DVD combo set to be released in the fall of 2006.

The movie Miami Vice featuring Collin Farrell and Jamie Foxx has for its main theme song Nonpoint's cover of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight".
