Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by JIP (talk | contribs) at 19:22, 19 August 2006 (August 2006: added another entry). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is an incomplete list of proposed mergers. Anyone may list any article merger proposal here. This is optional, and it does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

Guidelines

In general, this page should be used primarily to solicit outside feedback regarding mergers (particularly those of a controversial nature), or assistance with difficult or complicated mergers. Brief replies may be posted here, but lengthy discussions should be confined to the talk pages of the articles involved. After articles are merged (or a consensus that the articles should not be merged is reached), please remove them from the list below.

Current listings

Please list new proposals at the top of this month's section. Sign each listing or comment by typing: ~~~~

  • Merge Brooke Brodack and Emmalina among others into a single article perhaps named "Famous YouTube Celebrities". ADF's have failed for those pages because people believe they are notable, however there really isnt' a reason to keep them seperate as neither have really enough information to warrent individual pages. There are many other 'famous' users that have been talked about that do not have a page dedicated to them yet. --Bschott 17:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This was a really bad idea. See talk:curved lens.--Srleffler 18:18, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Okiku into Bancho Sarayashiki. Okiku is a character in Bancho Sarayashiki, but there is not enough individual information on the character to warrent an individual page. Everything contained on the Okiku page is duplicated on the Bancho Sarayashiki page, but in more detail. MightyAtom 12:57, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Italus and Italos. Seem to refer to same (semi-mythical) person, a user has placed the alternative in brackets on all relevant pages. I tagged these pages for merger last week, and no-one has commented one way or the other. I would do it myself, but I'm not sure which would be best to have the article under going forward, so I wanted to open it up for more discussion. David Underdown 12:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirected and cleanup to Foursquare house. I didn't keep the illustration, it's not too good. Teke 18:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Duplicate article redirected. Teke 18:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Duplicate redirected, you may want to wiggle in the few tidbits that were not in Diamond problem; I'm unfamiliar with the concept so I left that part alone. Teke 18:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Teke 18:48, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge at least most of Syndactyly into Dactyly. The former reads as if it should be at the latter title (it starts "In zoology, dactyly is...") and has lots of interesting information that is not relevant to the concept of syntactyly itself. Hairy Dude 18:26, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Saffuriya with Tzippori/Sepphoris. These are the Arabic, Hebrew and Greek names of the same site, despite attempts by the authors of the Tzippori page to claim otherwise. Please see: 1) discussion between Kathleen Christison (theology expert) and Benny Morris (Israeli historian)at [3], and this brief from archaeologist Leroy Waterman in 1931[4]. Community-supported/unopposed merger proposals

  • The List of Irish playwrights may be merged into the somewhat better developed List of Irish dramatists. Many names on both lists are the same and the rest should be combined. While there is more than a semantic difference between a "dramatist" and a "playwright", all the other lists in that category use the word "playwright", so to avoid retitling, an argument can be made for a merge in the other direction. --Romanspinner 05:30, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Environmental design into Sustainable design, writing a new article for the former. Currently, the former is described as synonymous with the latter, which is actually a neologism (albeit a widespread one). An entirely different normantive meaning (also widespread) for "Environmental design" already exists, which is not given any coverage in its current article.Skybum 18:04, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Having read Phonation, I think they should either be left seperate or phonation merged into voice organ, as the second includes the first. I'm no expert, though...Djbb2 19:37, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposals presently under debate

  • Not workable. All four terms mean different things. Not every "pro-choice" person is "pro-abortion". Not every "anti-abortion" person agrees with the political aims of "Pro-Life" campaigners. The terms all have different nuances. "Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" are political stances based on a set of values, often based on secular versus religious beliefs. "Pro-Abortion" and "Anti-abortion" refer to stances on a specific issue. Holding pro- or anti- views on abortion doesn't necessarily mean one is attached to or even supportive of the political campaigns and perspectives underlying the "Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" tags.
