Coromandel is a harbour, town and mountain range, all situated on the Coromandel Peninsula on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand.

Coromandel was named after the HMS Coromandel, which sailed into the harbour in 1820. The town's main industries are tourism and Mussel farming.

Major towns for tourists on the Coromandel peninsular are Thames, Coromandel town,Whitianga and Whangamata. It is possible to drive a circuit around the coast visiting all these towns.

Coromandel town is 189km from Auckland, where the major New Zealand International Airport is.

The town's laid back atmosphere is currently under threat from an influx of tourist related businesses e.g. souvenir shops and coffee bars, and daytrippers
