The Cheetah Girls 2, a made-for-TV movie, is the sequel to the Disney Channel film The Cheetah Girls, starring Raven-Symoné, Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, and Sabrina Bryan.

The sequel is about a talented teen quartet who take a whirlwind tour of the Catalan capital to pursue their dreams of pop superstardom. Actresses Lynn Whitfield (The Josephine Baker Story) and Lori Alter return as the Cheetah Girls' protective mothers, and popular Mexican singer/actress Belinda is introduced in her first English-speaking role as a would-be rival to The Cheetah Girls. Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) directs the movie and co-choreographs the movie with Charles Klapow (High School Musical) and English choreographer Paul Harris (Entrapment) who was brought in for the Tango sequence. Raven-Symoné also is an executive producer on this movie.[1]

Storyline

The movie begins in Manhattan, New York; where the Cheetah Girls are performing at the Graduation Party. Chanel and her mother (Juanita) are planning to go to Barcelona, Spain to meet Luc (Juanita's love interest), for a month of their summer break. The girls become excited about voyaging to Barcelona and suddenly see an ad for The Barcelona Music Festival, with the New Voices Competition for amateur singers. Galleria signs up the Cheetah Girls and the next day, Dorothea (Galleria's mom), Juanita, and the Cheetah Girls all end up Luc's European villa. The girls meet up with Count Joaquin, a handsome dancer who makes a relationship with Dorinda. The Count shows them around Barcelona, and takes them to the Dancing Cat, a Spanish night club where all the new artists perform their songs. They then meet Spanish pop star Marisol, who is also in the Music Festival and her manager/mother, Lola. Lola plans a scheme to get the Cheetah Girls to break up, as they are endangering her daughter's chance to win the competition. All the girls except Galleria are getting involved in other activities, and Galleria decides to just go home, because she is the only focused person. While at a train station, the other three girls find her and sing the song she wrote. Galleria says she will only come back if they stay focused. The girls work really hard, but then something goes wrong In some way, Lola gets the Dancing Cat's manager to give the Cheetah Girls money for their performance. According to the competition rules, it's only for amateurs, which the Cheetahs are not, since they accepted the money. A Spanish native, and musician, Angel, sights this and investigates. He goes and tells his uncle, the Festival's Director, and Marisol, not kicked out, but quits the competition. There is a grand finale with the song Amigas, Cheetahs.

Trivia

  • This movie is choreographed by Kenny Ortega, the choreographer of High School Musical, the highest rated opening movie on Disney Channel. The first Cheetah Girls was the second highest rated.
  • Raven, who plays Galleria in the Cheetah Girls movies, was an executive producer for The Cheetah Girls 2.
  • During the filming of the "Strut" music video, one of Raven's boot heels broke.
  • All four girls lived in Barcelona for two months while filming the movie.
  • The girls from the movie went through 3 weeks of intense dance routine rehearsals and training.
  • In another "DCOM Extra", Kenny Ortega says that the tango scene with Sabrina Bryan was the most exciting and demanding dance number in a film he has ever directed.
  • Aqua's name is frequently changing from Aquanette to Aquanetta. Aquanetta was what Galleria's father, Franco called her in the Cheetah Girls book series.
  • In the book series, the title is The Cheetah Girls 2: When in Spain. The movie has not been officially labeled that, so it is referred to as The Cheetah Girls 2.
  • The Cheetah Girls appeared on Good Morning America on August 23 in which they signed autographs and performed "The Party's Just Begun". The song did not sound complete because Kiely Williams' microphone did not work (and instead of lip syncing, the group sang live).
  • The boyfriend of Chanel's mother, Luc, was mentioned but not seen in the first movie, but now seen in the second movie.
  • The Cheetah Girls 2 will debut on Disney DVD in December 2006.

TV Series

Main Article:The Cheetah Girls TV Series

The Cheetah Girls TV series is a Disney Channel original show put on hiatus after four episodes, according to TRL in November of 2005. The show was put on hiatus after the contract for That's So Raven was renewed. Therefore, Raven would not have been able to be in the show. Now that That's So Raven is over, there is no news whether or not the show will start filming again. It is possible that Disney Channel is waiting to see how the ratings are for the August 25th release of The Cheetah Girls 2, to decide whether or not the show will be aired.
