John "Jay" Batt, Jr. (born in 19??) is a local politician from New Orleans.

Political Career

He is a Republican. He served as the only member of his party on the New Orleans City Council, from 2002 to 2006, representing District A.

District A roughly covers the Westlake area of New Orleans, one of the rare affluent sections of town to be among the most seriously damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Batt lost his bid for re-election in 2006, against Shelley Stephenson Midura, a Democrat, following a tough race that turned into mudslinging. He possibly faced a backlash related to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Mayor Ray Nagin won re-election only after facing a much tougher challenge than expected before the hurricane and half of the members who wished to stay on the City Council were not back.

In the months that followed Hurricane Katrina, anti-Jay Batt graffitis were observed on abandoned cars in Westlake.
