Apache NiFi is a software project from the Apache Software Foundation which enables the automation of data flow between systems.
The project was created by the United States National Security Agency (NSA) and originally named Niagrafiles. In 2014 the NSA released the source code as open source, via the NSA Technology Transfer Program. [1][2][3][4][5]
Development of Apache NiFi continued at Onyara, Inc., a start up which was later acquired by Hortonworks in August 2015[6][7].
