Bülent Ecevit

Bülent Ecevit (born on May 28 1925) is a Turkish politician and was also a writer and journalist.

He was elected into the Turkish parliament for the first time in 1957. In 1974 he became prime minister as the leader of "Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi" (the Republican People's Party). He gave the order of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in July 20, 1974. Ecevit was made a prisoner by the military junta after the coup on September 12, 1980. He returned to politics in 1987 and became the leader of the "Demokratik Sol Parti" (the Democratic Left Party) in 1989, finally becoming the prime minister again between 1999 and 2003.
