Initial D (video game series)
Initial D Arcade Stage is a racing game series developed by Sega Rosso, a division of Sega, based on the anime and manga Initial D.
For background story for the game, please refer to article Initial D
In Initial D Arcade Stage players race against different opponents in various mountain passes featured in the manga. Players can choose what car and the customization he wants and save the these data and game progress into a magnetic card system that players can buy. From this way after every game the progress can be saved rather than lost. The player can also save his progress on one card and continue on another Initial D cabinet using that card.
Note that resuming from another arcade cabinet is subject to following conditions:
- It is not backwards compatible (i.e. a ver 2 card cannot be used on ver 1)
- The user must upgrade his or her card, which is permanent, if he or she wants to use a version 1 card on version 2 cabinet.
- The card must be renewed after 50 Plays.
- When upgrading from one version to another, plays may carry over.
There are five games released so far.

This version also supports the four courses mode and still costs the player 60,000 points.
Note:Irohazaka can only be played downhill in Legend of the Streets mode. (It's a one-way street). Only after finishing Legend of the Streets once, Irohazaka Reverse is unlocked. However in Battle Mode, Reverse mode is always unlocked.
Initial D Arcade Stage Ver.3
Japanese version: early 2004 / English version Mid 2004

Snow Condition Akina is identical in layout to Akina, only it is snowing, and only playable under the nighttime setting. This makes it a generally more difficult course, since the car's tires have much less grip, and visibility is much lower. Naturally there is no choice for wet or dry either.
Initial D Arcade Stage 4
Sega is working on a new version of its hit arcade racing game Initial D: Arcade Stage, the game will run on the Lindbergh board. Test machines have been placed at some arcades in Japan. [citation needed]
The card and reader are different, probably due to Sega's loss of rights to the previous card reader. The placement of the reader is also changed.
The shifter has been moved to a lower position similar to the Battle Gear series arcade machines. A different steering wheel is used.
The new cabinet also includes a wide screen.

In addition to wireless ad-hoc play, the game includes a new card element. Following each battle, the player earns a card. Cards come in three types: rival, battle and tuning. The rival and battle cards are mostly for show, giving details, respectively, on the characters and classic battles from the series, but also provide unlockable features when viewed. The tuning cards, however, contribute to gameplay, as players can combine these to customize their cars. In all, Street Stage features 185 cards to collect. Cards can also be traded to other players wirelessly through ad-hoc.
Game Modes: Fastest Street Racer Legend, Time Attack, Multiplayer (ad-hoc), Bunta Challenge!!
Features: Garage, Card Collection, Project D Home Page
Courses: Myogi (beginner), Usui (normal), Akagi (difficult), Akina (difficult), Irohazaka (expert), Happogahara (expert), Shomaru Pass(expert), Tsuchisaka (expert)
Story: Spans First, Second, Third, and Fourth Stages.
Soundtrack
The soundtracks are mostly made up of Eurobeat soundtracks, often shared with the anime series.
