I am currently on wiki"break" (reduced editing, rather) until September 8th due to school starting.

As of 1 PM UTC today, I will be at school and not able to edit. I'll be able to edit today starting at about 9 PM UTC, give or take about half an hour earlier or later. Talk page messages are welcome, but I won't be able to respond to any today for a while.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Basketball

Wikipedia:WikiProject Basketball: Hello One, you may not be aware but activity and discussion are down at our WikiProject. While a to do list, and a few neat tables have been created, more discussion and action needs to take place. Please stop by the WikiProject Basketball talk page and leave your input, and ideas. Thanks KOS | talk 20:12, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That Button Phobia AfD

Hi,

Generally, I do the relisting for DRVs that I close. In this case, my nomination is much more extensive in background information than yours, so I replaced yours (we had written it at the same time, and you beat me by one minute and an edit conflict. I don't know why you reverted my nom., but I am now going to put it back again, only because it gives the full procedural background. Best wishes, Xoloz 03:22, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Even though yours is fuller, mine came first"
Well, okay. I think it rather odd of you to insist on this, and a tad petty, but I'm not about to get involved in the lamest edit war ever over it. Be advised, however, that by precedent the DRV closer does write the nomination. Now that you know this, don't intercede; or, if you do so, please write an informative nomination that helps explain to commenters the nature of the case. The point of nomination is not a game "I got here first", but to help process and policy by being thorough. Best wishes, Xoloz 03:38, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fwiw, the fact that the article was speedied before rather than run through an AfD was pertinent to the nomination, so deleting Xoloz's opening statement served no purpose whatsoever. ~ trialsanderrors 06:39, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. :) I was also tired, enough so such that I don't remember much of anything about it. Ah, night-time. Best wishes, Xoloz 14:52, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your edit summary that says: (Midwest Center opened in 1998, so mid-to-late). So why does your edit to the article still say "early-to-late" and not "mid-to-late"? --CollegeSportsGuy 18:10, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can any of the 1000 thousand administrators in the Wikipedia enforce an ArbCom decision? A user isn't respecting a block blatantly

SqueakBox was blocked in August 22 until September 28, 2006. It can be found in his block log. As can be seen here, SqueakBox is accessing the Wikipedia after his ban from the address 63.245.13.229, that he claimed to be his real IP address before being blocked (here The 'SB' there means SqueakBox as it's easy to see). Hagiographer 06:36, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your attention. I've spent days trying to solve this issue. Hagiographer 07:15, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kannapolis, David Ragan [citation needed]

"erm no" is the edit summary you left after removing the [citation needed] beside the name David Ragan.

Can you clarify your summary?

The paragraph in question stated "Kannapolis is the birthplace of... David Ragan [citation needed]".

In trying to check that fact, all signs pointed to David Ragan's birthplace as Unadilla, GA.

David's current hometown may be Kannapolis, NC, but again, the paragraph in question is the birthplace, thus [citation needed].

When referring to the athletic teams at UWM, "Wisconsin-Milwaukee", and any variation there of, is indeed improper. I've added a cite stating this (the conference's official media guide), and corrected the article. I am very familiar with this situation, having worked with the school's SID regarding this issue in recent years. I realize it may seem like a strange idea, but just think about what the University of Wisconsin-Madison calls their athletics teams... the "Wisconsin" Badgers. They use only a part of their schools name, the part they believe best identifies the school for athletics. UWM simply does the same thing now. This is also not uncommon in recent years with other large state universities that compete in the NCAA's D-I, such as UNC-Charlotte and UT-Chattanooga that have done the same. Let me know if you need any other sort of official confirmation from the school, and I should be able to get it for you. Thanks! - CollegeSportsGuy 04:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Irwin

Agreed - its just that when I protected it earlier a few ppl had got unhappy so I didn't wanna protected it too long. --Robdurbar 21:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for protecting Steve Irwin properly mate. For the record I think anon edits do way more harm than good on WP, overall Robert Brockway 22:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ever tried counting them? -Splash - tk 22:32, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It turns out that between 54% and 60% of anon edits to the article in questions have been allowed to stand. See the bottom of my talk page. -Splash - tk 00:50, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To reply to your protection 'summary': "no", and "it's not the first time they've appeared on a Main Paged article; in fact it's probably not even the 1000th, literally". I do however, speak out about protection of the very first article people try to edit! Have you never (I guess not so many people have) been enthusing to a friend about how Wikipedia is, in fact, quite good, and yes, you really can (no yes, you really can, yes, seriously) edit it on a whim, and hey let's try it right now. Oh. Bugger. Well, no you can't edit that. Oh, nor that. Whereas vandals try to go too far, we shouldn't go too far in return else all that happens is they got the better of us. (And we get press reports that say "Wikipedia locks out anonymous editors after vandalism" [1]. -Splash - tk 22:32, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Denver 2008 - the latest

Hey, 1ne. I'm dropping by the talk pages of Wikipedians for Denver 2008 today with an update on the bidding process and where Denver's bid is currently at.

First off, Denver has a new, unofficial bid homepage up today: http://www.denverdnc2008.com/ , which you may want to check out for more info on the bid to bring the DNC to the Mile High City in '08.

Second, today the site-selection committee is expected to announce the final two cities in the bid for 2008. It's expected by most pundits and bloggers that Denver and St. Paul will likely be the two finalists, but many think that dark horse New York may edge out a seat in the final days of the bidding process.

Third, we're expecting an official site for Denver's bid to emerge within days from the mind of Colorado Democratic Party V.C. Dan Slater (founder and operator of the popular Colorado blog Demonotes).

Well, that's the basics of the day-after-Labor Day DNC update, from a dem from Denver (that'd be me). If your looking for more info on the process that this is all about, check out the premier blog for doing so, http://demconwatch.blogspot.com (a link is on my page: links section for both this blog, Demnotes, and Denver 2008). If you’re looking for more info on the Democratic Party straight from the donkey's mouth check out http://www.democrats.org the official site of the Democratic National Committee.

Also, thanks for hosting the homeless "User Denver2008" template. It's been an intricate part in recruiting support here at Wikipedia. Anyhow, have a good one. Editor19841 (talk) 23:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have you ever heard of a free web host?

Most place ads on sites, but it doesn't make them commercial sites. The same is true of Uncyclopedia. It is not commercial and it never can be due to the licensing. Ericj 23:46, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
