Thomas (Tom) King is a fictional character on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He has been on the show since 2004 and Kenneth Farrington plays him.

About Tom

Tom came to Emmerdale in 2004 to set up his business which his sons help him with which is called King & Sons. He got helped by sons Jimmy, Carl and Matthew King and also Jimmy's wife Sadie. He left his youngest son Max behind but Max came later asking for money but Tom said no. He made Max be a vet and secretly payed partly his wages. Him and Max don't understand each other but Tom still wants Max to work for him. Sadly, the last thing Tom ever said to Max was "You're a disgrace" before Max died. Tom almost married Charity Tate in January 2005 but Sadie stopped it. Tom also had to stop his sons from taking control of their business and told Sadie he hated having to work against his own sons.

However, in early August 2006, Ken Farrington (who plays Tom King)announced he would be leaving the soap after two years.

The actor has said that he feels it is time for him to move on.

Speaking about his decision to quit the show, Farrington said: "I originally came to 'Emmerdale' for just six months and I have ended up staying for three years. Even during my 25 years at 'Coronation Street', two years at a time was my longest stint."

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at 'Emmerdale' but feel it is time to move on," he said.

'Emmerdale' series producer Kathleen Beedles said: "Ken has been an asset to the show and will be greatly missed but his exit storyline is going to be extremely dramatic and memorable for viewers, which we're very excited about."
