Workers' Party (Brazil)

The Partido dos Trabalhadores (Portuguese for Workers' Party) is a political party in Brazil. It was founded by a group of intelectuals and metallurgical workers in São Bernardo do Campo. Brazil's current president Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula) is one of its founders, and the most famous member of the party. Mr. Luis Inácio Lula is one of the founders of Foro de São Paulo. The party is easily recognized by its collor: red and its symbol: a red star with the label:"PT".
There are about thirty tendencies within the PT, ranging from the center-left group that Lula is a part of to Trotskyites, Marxists and Christian socialists. Its members are known as petistas, from the Portuguese acronym "PT".
