The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In 13 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, the organization implements programs that mobilize rural grassroots communities to achieve sustainable progress in health, education, nutrition and family income. It is a member of the American Council of Voluntary International Action ([1]) which honored it for its work on gender equality[2], and is on the roster of the UN Economic and Social Commission | (ECOSOC) .

Criticism

In the years immediately following its founding in 1977, The Hunger Project was attacked in the media for its association with Werner Erhard, founder of est, who served on The Hunger Project's Board of Directors from 1979 to 1990. Critics claim that, in its early days, THP had promoted est - a claim that the organization denies. A compilation of these attacks is maintained on | the Rick Ross website.
