- Kurt was the soap's original bad boy, with his good looks, cheeky charm and trouble with the police.
- He was friends with Tony Hutchinson and Jambo Bolton and had his heart set on winning Natasha Anderson as his girlfriend. Tragedy struck before the two could really get together, and her death started a deadly feud with Rob Hawthorne.
- He went on to marry Ruth Osborne, but their marriage was not made in heaven. After many fights, Kurt found himself falling for the charms of Ruth's sexy step sister Kate Patrick. The two could hardly keep away from each other and were eventually caught out. Kurt and Ruth's marriage was over and he left the town alone.

- Lucy Benson - Kerrie Taylor, 1995-2000

The Burton-Taylor family
- Liz Burton (Note: formerly Taylor) - Andree Bernard), 2003-2006
- Liz is the archetypal overwrought mother of teenagers and spends her life trying to maintain the peace between her offspring, whose father committed suicide. She had a difficult relationship with stepdaughter Darlene, made worse when Darlene found out that her brother Ali had (accidentally) stabbed school bully Stephen "Macki" Mackintosh, but told everybody she suspected Liz's son Justin. Darlene changed her story in court, which contributed towards Justin being acquitted of killing Macki. Liz was grateful to Darlene for this. After Justin returned home, Liz chucked Richard out for having an affair with a colleague but said Darlene could stay with them. Liz has recently decided that her family must move away from Hollyoaks, to start afresh. However, most of her children are unwilling. Darlene has been kicked out, Sophie has said she doesn't want to leave and Justin hasn't said anything to Liz yet but Becca begged him to stay. Her name is a reference to actress Elizabeth Taylor's marriages to actor Richard Burton.
- Liz has now left Hollyoaks, but could not persuade Mel, Sophie or Justin to go with her.
- Richard Taylor - Richard Calkin, 2003-2005
- Richard Taylor arrived in Hollyoaks with two of his four children Darleen and Ali, to set up home with Liz Burton and two of her children Justin and Sophie and to run the local Gym "Bodyboost". Liz and Richard's attempts to fuse the two families together was the focus of many Hollyoaks story arcs. Eventually he and Liz married, and some time later the families combined, just in time for them be ripped apart again.
- Richard eventually cheated on Liz (ironically, in a similar fashion to how he had cheated on his former wife with Liz.) After Justin's trial Liz threw Richard out, and he left the series.
- Sophie Burton - Connie Powney, 2003-2006
- Justin's older sister Sophie has had to cope with the suicide of her father and the death of her step-brother Ali, plus breakup of her mother Liz from her stepfather Richard. Sophie has a twin sister, Mel, and her step-sister, Darlene, Richard's daughter, still lived with the family until recently.
- Although identical twins, Mel and Sophie are polar opposites; Sophie is quiet and introverted and often gets annoyed by her siblings' behaviour and lack of consideration for her needs.
- Sophie and Mel were both drugged with GHB by Andy Holt. Mel was raped, although Sophie escaped this.
- Sophie started a relationship with Sam Owen. He confessed his part in the rapes and she tricked him into turning himself in, however, Sophie broke down when she was home alone after Sam was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison for his part in the rapes. Presumably, this is because she was still in love with him and wanted him to pay for his crimes, not take his life away.
- Sophie went to work at the new salon opened for the Hollyoaks students. Sophie eventualy delevloped fellings for Russ Owen, Sam's brother. She was temperatly sacked by Evissa owner Sean due to allegations made by Mercedes McQueen about an injured neck. However, Sophie got her job back when Russ pretended to ask out Mecades and photographed her without her neck brace on, proving her allegations to be lies. But Russ had fallen for Mercades and Sophie eventualy told Russ she liked him but Russ said he had to leave and Sophie found him a few minuets later making out with Mercades.
- After Sam escaped Prison Russ started to look after Sophie who was worreid Sam was coming to get her. Mercades was jelous of Russ spending all his time with Sophie and was dispointed that Russ didn't tell her about Sam. Russ and Sophie eventualy started dating but Sam had come back to the Village and was told by his siter Nicole that his brother was dating Sophie. Angry Sam went to find Sophie and Russ. Mean while had gone to the dog with her siter, Mel, she waited for Russ (who was sleeping with Mercades) when she got a phone call from Sam who rushed into the pub and set it alight. Russ found his siter Nicole and she told him that Sam was going to the Dog looking for him and Sophie and was angry that they were dating. Russ went into the burning pub and pulled Sophie out but she later died from smoke inhalation.
- Melanie Burton - Cassie Powney, 2003-2006
- Sophie's twin sister Mel is outgoing and speaks her mind. She and Sophie manage to get along despite irritating each other a lot of the time, and she shares her twin's ire at the lack of respect they get from the rest of the family.
- Mel has recently had alcohol problems but got her act together following some unprotected sex when she was drunk which left her fearing she had an STI. Andy Holt raped Mel after drugging her and her sister Sophie, which had a catastrophic effect on Mel, who turned to alcohol again to try to escape from her problems. Mel was hospitalised after falling into an alcohol-related coma on New Year's Eve 2005, which led Liz to discover that she had been raped.
- In the late night spin-off series Hollyoaks: Back from the Dead, Mel tracked down Andy to the warehouse where he was holding Russ, Sam and Nicole hostage. She drugged him with GHB and told him he would have to pay for his crimes. When she was on the phone to the police Andy tried to escape; he ran into a darkened room where Mel found him impaled on a metal spike (Andy had run into it). Mel is currently having an on-and-off relationship with O.B.
- Mel's alcoholism has worsened, to the point where she had sex with a man whilst drunk (who mistook her for a prostitute). She also nearly poisoned young Tom, after he accidentally drank some of her vodka. Mel is having trouble coping with her new tee-total life style.
- Mel died on the 8th September alongside her sister in a pub fire started by Sam.
- Darlene Taylor - Sarah Lawrence 2003-2006
- Darlene was the sister of Ali and daughter to Richard. Her mother is Karen and she has two younger siblings who for some reason she seems to have forgotten about since she never mentioned them. She came to Hollyoaks after her parents broke up, and had to live with Richard's new wife Liz and her family. Darlene hated the Burtons, especially Justin. She and Justin physically fought on her birthday and he pushed her through a glass window. She was scarred but had plastic surgery to conceal her disfigurement.
- She was just starting to enjoy life as part of the Taylor-Burton family when her life was ripped apart. She discovered that Richard was cheating on Liz, and faced losing another mum due to her dad's infidelity. Soon after, Ali died after murdering school bully Macki. Darlene didn't want Ali to be remembered as a murderer, so she let Justin take the blame. Eventually she told the truth and was allowed to stay with Liz when Richard was kicked out for his cheating.
- Despite Liz telling Darlene that she was still a part of the family, she felt left out and moved in with boyfriend Craig when the Burtons announced they were leaving Hollyoaks. Darlene manipulated Craig's family until his stepbrother Darren tricked her into sleeping with him to prove to Craig that she was deceitful. Having burnt all her bridges, Darlene left Hollyoaks.
- Ali Taylor - Luti Fagbenle, 2004-2005
- Ali was brother to Darleen and son to Richard. He later became step-brother to Justin, Mel and Sophie and step-son to Liz. During Justin's 'rebel' phase he and Justin fought considerably, though on Justin's release from 'Rehabilitation Camp' the two became close friends.
- Ali was constantly bullied by the racist Macki at school. An intelligent and sensitive child, Ali's natural response to this was to ignore the bullying. Ali's unrequited crush on Nicole would eventually prove his undoing. After Nicole rebuked him for being a coward, Ali would take the knife Richard had confisicated from Justin from its hiding place and seek out Macki alone. In the resulting standoff, Macki made an attempt to club Ali with a brick, and as an act of self defence Ali stabbed and killed Macki. Scared by his actions, Ali ran in fear straight out into the street and was killed by oncoming traffic. Luti Fagbenle is now a film producer running a media production company called Luti Media. Ltd.

The heart attack caused Gorden to get a new lease for life and run for mayor. Sadly these dreams were cut short when a few weeks later he was involved in a car crash and died from a further resulting heart attack. Despite his death Gordon continued to play a part in the series, appearing for a while as a comforting hallucination to 'Bombhead' during his breakdown following his mother's demise.

- Denis Richardson
- Denis Richardson was Helen's first husband and Mandy and Lewis' father. A schoolteacher, he suffered from alcoholism that would turn him violent. He subsequently raped his daughter, and the show has explained long term child abuse. He was convicted of his crimes, and eventually was let out of prison weeks before dying of liver damage. As a final fitting end, his ashes were washed down the drain by Helen.
- Lewis Richardson - Ben Hull, 1997-2001
- Lewis, Mandy Richardson's older brother and Helen and Denis's son, eventually turned out to be his father's son. After starting off as a bad character, Lewis reformed and formed a relationship with Ruth and helped Finn set up the series' night club the Loft. In later episodes however, he fell to the addictions of gambling and drink, eventually beating Ruth savagely. Releasing he was turning into the father he despised and unable to live with himself, Lewis took a paracetamol overdose and like his father died of Liver failure.
- Mandy Richardson Hutchinson (Note: formerly Cunningham) - Sarah Jayne Dunn,1997-2006
- Mandy has grown from a naive schoolgirl to a respectable married mother-of-one. She survived domestic abuse by her father and a poisoning attempt from former best friend Laura Burnes. On New Years Eve 1999, she delivered her half-brother Tom when her mother went into labour while giving Mandy a driving lesson. After the death of Mandy's mother and stepfather in a car crash, Mandy gained guardianship of Tom, although he now lives with Mandy's stepbrother Max. Mandy is married to Tony Hutchinson, who promised her late brother Lewis he'd look after Mandy. Mandy and Tony's relationship has been strained; after a miscarriage, Mandy started to hit Tony. However, they both received counselling and have resolved their difficulties. They eloped to Rome to marry. Although Mandy always thought she would never have children, she and Tony have a baby called Grace, born two months premature. The Cornwell-Davies family
- D.I. Will Davies - Barney Cleverly, 2000-2005
- The Policeman father of Ben and Abby.
- Alison Davies - Natalie Forbes 2003-2004
- Ben Davies - Marcus Patric, 2000-2005
- Ben arrived in the village and was a big hit as the hunky new fireman. His character's first big storyline happened when his girlfriend Cindy Cunningham was fleeing the country and he accidentally ran Anna Green over. This only came to light after Ben almost ran Anna over for a second time and she remembered he was in the car the first time. His apologies fell on deaf ears but Ben proved to be a good friend to Anna when she was pregnant and the two shared a bond.
- His love life was complicated. He had brief relationships with Mandy Richardson and Dale Jackson as well as one night stand's with his best friend Dan Hunter's ex Debbie Dean and with Emma Chambers who he got pregnant. By this time Ben was in a full time relationship with Izzy Cornwell who he had also proposed to but did not mention Emma or the baby. Emma became quite the pain as she was extremely jealous of Ben and Izzy's relationship and spitefully spilled the beans on her pregnancy days before their wedding. Her plan to split them up failed and they married. The marriage did not last very long. Emma moved away with Ben's son and Izzy was extremely jealous of his bond with his only child. When her own pregnancy ended in a miscarriage resulting in her being unable to have kids, Izzy did everything she could to end her marriage finally succeeding by seducing Scott Anderson and walking out on Ben.
- Ben returned to his womanising ways and had numerous flings. He was devastated further when his best friend Dan Hunter died. Following Dan's death Ben helped Jake Dean win back Becca Hayton as her and Ben were close friends and was even there when Jake proposed to Becca in the village. At this time Ben had been falling in love himself with Dan's little sister Lisa who Ben had always seen as a little sister himself. After a brief relationship with Louise Summers, Ben declared his love to Lisa and after a less than great response from friends and family they decided to leave the village together to find a place together. Marcus Patric and Gemma Atkinson crossed over into their own spin off show Hollyoaks:Let Loose.
- Abby Davies - Helen Noble, 2000-2004
- Will's daughter and Ben's younger sister Abby was the school friend of Lee, Zara, Cameron and Norman.
- Abby's main storylines involved her tempestuous relationship with Lee. No matter how many times they would break up, Abby could always be won back by Lee quoting Romeo and Juliet (though this didn't stop her almost starting a relationship with Craig Dean.) Lee finally asked Abby to marry him shortly before she left Hollyoaks to go to university, but alas it was not to be. When she stopped calling, Lee executed a surprise visit - only to find her in bed with someone else.
- Mrs. Cornwell - Tracey Childs, 203-2004
- Izzy Cornwell Davies - Elize Du Toit, 2000-2004
- Strong- willed, feisty and continually saying the wrong, Izzy Cornwell, arrived in Chester as a student and as Tony’s tenant. Izzy first appeared when Adam Morgan saved her life in the college pool, after she was drowning. Adam instantly fell in love with Izzy, and dumped Geri for her. Thus began a war of words between Geri and Izzy. Izzy, started dating Adam, but lasted a short while after disscovering he had exposed her by putting cameras up in Tony’s house for a film project and Geri had also been involved. Izzy and Geri rivalry continued for over a year, climaxing in their one to one combat in Game 4 IT (a charity event), when Geri managed to beat Izzy.
- Izzy than went on to move at ‘The Dog’, and had also started working in there. She started dating hard man Dan Hunter, but that did not work out after he was not being honest with her. Izzy went on to build a freindly rivalry with fireman Ben Davies (Marcus Patrick), where she taught him a lesson, when she got him believing that she likes to have sex in dangerous places and she took him to an empty top of a bus. She blindfolded him and made him take his clothes off, leaving him naked in the streets of Chester! From there on Izzy and Ben began to complete each other, but to a serious side things began to fall downhill for Izzy. Her parents marriage had split and she was being repeatedly harassed by Scott Andersson. She confided a lot in Tony, who supported her through diffcult time and shortly the pair became an Chester's most unlikely couple. However, it was not to last when Tony’s ex fiancée Julie had returned and started working with Tony at Gnosh. Unexpectedly Izzy got engaged with Tony, but Izzy promised Tony that she will keep it a secret. But, Izzy was horrified after disscovering that Tony was engaged to Julie! This lead on to Izzy dumping him and her harassment returned from Scott continued, when he started telling her how sorry he was and he wanted to be given another chance.
- Scott started pressuring her, until Ben Davies came to her rescue. From there on, Izzy began to form a strong bond with Ben as the pair tried to wind each other up, but soon Izzy started falling for Ben, however it was pride getting in her way of asking Ben out. Having underachieved with a 2:2 degree, Izzy decided to move on from Chester and go travelling with Chloe. After two months, Izzy returned back to Chester as she realised that she had to make a go of things with Ben, but was hurt when Ben did not pay much attension on her return. Having a minor accident outside Gnosh, Ben had rushed to Izzy's bedside at hospital and told her that he wanted to marry her. The pair finally got together as they awaited for their wedding as Izzy had introduced a sex ban on Ben until their wedding day. Scott was desperate for Izzy not to marry Ben, and the night before her wedding day, in a desperate attempt for her not to marry Ben, Scott confessed to Izzy that Ben slept with Emma Chambers and she is pregnant with his child. Shocked and in disbelief, Izzy confronted Ben on their wedding day and Ben admitted to her that he slept with Emma while Izzy was travelling.
- Not sure what to do, Izzy decide to give Ben another chance as the pair tied he knot. Having come back from her honeymoon, Izzy found it difficult than she thought with the attention Ben had given to Emma over their child Arthur. Convinced, that the only way to get Ben's attension was to fall pregnant. Izzy became pregnant but within two months she had lost their child. Suffering and depressed, Izzy could not cope with the depression and was further suffered when she was told by the doctor that she can not have children. Izzy felt that she could not give Ben what she wants and decided to do the unthinkable by sleeping with Scott Anderson- in a bid to end all ties with Ben. She told a devastated Ben about her actions leading him to throw her out.
- A few weeks later, both Scott and Ben called on Izzy’s doorstep, each pleading Izzy to give them another chance. Izzy told Scott she wanted nothing to do with him, while she told Ben that their marriage is over but she will always love him. For over three years, Izzy had been a dominating character of the show and has been hugely popular with the audiences, as she moves on from the show after her eventful time in Chester.
The Dean family
- Johnno Dean - Colin Wells, 2003-2005
- The ever loyal Elvis-loving husband to Frankie, Johnno surprised the cast of Hollyoaks when it was discovered that he had been having an affair with a younger woman and had fathered an illegitimate child. After being thrown out by Frankie, Johnno eventually left the series with his tail between his legs after a failed attempt to reconcile with his family was scuppered by Craig finding out about more of his lies.
- Debbie Dean - Jodi Albert, 2002-2004
- Johnno and Frankie's daughter, older sister to Steph and Craig, younger to Jake. Debbie was Dan's on-again-off-again girlfriend, and was briefly involved with Darren Osborne during the period Dan alienated her during his incarceration. After Dan's tragic death Debbie found an engagement ring Dan had been planning to give to her on Christmas Day and collapsed in tears. By new Years Eve Debbie had decided not to wollow in grief and misery but to explore and see more of the world and enjoy her life to the full or as much as she could without Dan by her side. Debbie decided to put her singing ability to use and join up as a performer on a cruise liner. Debbie briefly returned in 2005 for a double wedding in the family. She witnessed her mother Frankie marry Jack Osborne and brother Jake marry Becca.
The Hunter-Mills family
- Les Hunter - John Graham Davies, 2001-2005
- The moody father of Ellie, Dan, Lee and Lisa: husband to Sally. He had a reliance on alcohol to sort his problems. He later admitted to being an alcoholic. He had two sides, the strict, overprotective father and the aloof, caring side of his personality usually reserved for when his children needed him the most. His drinking split him and Sally up for a while after he accidentally hit her while drunk. The two also split when Les wanted to support their selfish daughter Ellie after she destroyed Dan's life. The two were reunited after eldest son Dan died suddenly and Ellie finally scarpered. When all the children had moved out the two sold up to live in Cyprus.
- Sally Hunter - Katherine Dow Blyton, 2001-2005
- Mother of Ellie, Dan, Lee and Lisa: wife of Les. She was also a secondary school science teacher. Les's drinking split him and Sally up for a while after he accidentally hit her while drunk. The two also split when Les wanted to support their selfish daughter Ellie after she destroyed Dan's life. The two were reunited after eldest son Dan died suddenly and Ellie finally scarpered. When all the children had moved out the two sold up to live in Cyprus.
- Ellie Hunter Mills - Sarah Baxendale, 2002-2005
- The eldest Hunter child was a runaway living in Ibiza for two years without contacting her family before returning, not out of love but because she had run out of money. She was a man-eater and was responsible for the spread of an STD that Jamie Nash got the blame for. Her brother Dan and mother Sally resented her immensely, while her father Les treated her like a princess, which she often lived up to. Her evil streak came when she married serial killer Toby Mills. When her brother Dan saved her from being his next victim, she pretended not to remember what had happened (she had fallen from a roof) before letting her brother take the blame for not only Toby's murder but the murder of all Toby's victims. Her family turned against her including her dad. The atmosphere in the Hunter household got too much and Sally disowned her daughter before ordering her to leave. Ellie refused and when Dan was finally released after another of Toby's victims was discovered and her lies were exposed, she was more hated than ever. Dan refused to forgive her and after he died Sally made it clear that she was no longer a part of the family and told her she wished she had died instead of Dan. One day when the family were out celebrating Sally's birthday, Ellie packed her bags and slipped away with no one caring or even trying to find her.
- Toby Mills - Henry Luxemburg, 2001-2003
- Toby was never the most exciting character in Hollyoaks! He was a bit of a push over with girls and especially with Ellie Hunter. His relationship with her was always up and down and on and off and it tore him apart. He was so upset by how llie treated him that he started to murder blonde girls that looked similar to her! After many girls Ellie found out that it was him and tried to make him confess. He refused and made her go on a trip with him. Ellie's brother Dan and sister Lisa soon found out and followed and it was almost too late when they got there to find Toby had forced Ellie onto a roof and was going to kill her and himself! Dan managed to get to them and grabbed Toby and pushed him off the roof, as Toby fell to his death, Ellie also slipped and, despite Dan trying to pull her back, she fell too but luckily she survived and Toby was revealed as the Hollyoaks killer!
- Daniel 'Dan' Simon Hunter - Andy McNair, 2001-2004
- Dan was the first Hunter to arrive in Hollyoaks, opening his own garage (later owning Dan's PitStop), followed by the rest of his family. Sensitive, yet extremely volatile and moody, Dan was extremely private about his life, which is why the first person he got involved with, nosey Izzy Cornwell, did not last very long. She accused him of being on drugs and spread the gossip around college. He wasn't, instead he suffered from diabetes. His relationship with his family was strained at the best of times. He hated his selfish sister Ellie, didn't understand his mother, clashed regularly with his father, had little in common with his brother Lee but had a close, if overprotective, bond with little sister Lisa. He was shy yet good looking and fell for Debbie Dean the moment he saw her. The two were very much in love but were torn apart. Firstly he cheated on her after she had embarrassed him publicly by revealing she had taken his virginity, and when Dan was wrongly imprisoned for his sister Ellie's husband Toby Mills' killing spree. Dan was released after months in prison and was gutted to find Debbie had moved on. Dan and Debbie were not over each other and left it to the last minute to tell each other they loved each other, when moments later Dan's rally car exploded killing him and leaving Debbie devastated.
- (Note: Dan's first name was originaly going to be Simon but Phil Redmond didn't want to name any characters Simon as he hated the name.)
- Lee Hunter - Alex Carter, 2001-2005
- The second youngest member of the family was also the comedy element of the show for a long time with his sidekick Bombhead. Lee's first appearance was in the back of a police car. He was always in trouble and failed his exams numerous times due to his workshy attitude. He enjoyed money making schemes that often went wrong and dodging any hard work if he could. He had a long running on-off relationship with Abby Davies, who he believed was his Juliet to his Romeo. They were always falling in and out of love with each other usually when Lee messed up by lying to her or on one occasion having a fling with her best friend Zara Morgan. Lee proposed to Abby before she left for University in Brighton. She accepted and after only a week apart Lee annoyed everyone by pining after her and being miserable and lovesick. They broke up after Lee visited her only to find her in bed with someone else. She broke off their engagement explaining how she had made a mistake accepting his proposal and that they were just not meant to be. Lee moved on to become a student at the college taking a course in Beauty Therapy (he wanted to do film studies but this was the only course he could get on with his grades and lack of work). He actually made a success of this and became College president but his ego grew too big and he alienated best friend Bombhead, while being set up for fraud by deputy Chris. He and Zara became close again after they were both kicked out of college. The two left the village together, with eco warrior convincing shallow Lee to come with her to do voluntary work overseas.
- Lisa Hunter - Gemma Atkinson, 2001-2005
- The youngest member of the Hunter family, Lisa often bore the brunt of her families troubles. Shy and intelligent, Lisa was under constant supervision by her overprotective dad Les and older brothers Dan and Lee. She had a troubled life and was bullied at school by nasty Steph Dean who was jealous of how popular someone so nice was. She kept a secret from everyone, until Brian Drake saw cuts on her arms and legs and assumed she was being abused and called a social worker. Lisa admitted to self harming. She saw a counsellor for a while and became Brian's girlfriend but became a little to reliant on his help when her troubles at home became too much. They split up just before their exams started. When hunky new boy Cameron Clark arrived he took an instant shine to Lisa and the two started dating. Around this time she started receiving threatening text messages from a mysterious stalker. Her friends assumed it was Steph as she had always made her life hell and also wanted Cameron for herself. The stalker was revealed to be her jealous ex boyfriend Brian who had been terrorising her as he had failed all his exams and blamed her rather than himself. Cameron and Lisa lost their virginity to each other, but broke up and Lisa briefly dated older man Kristian Hargreaves. When her beloved big brother Dan died Lisa became more confident and was determined to enjoy life to the full. Her reckless behaviour included having an affair with Jake Dean and passing on an STD. The affair did not last. As Jake was totally in love with his girlfriend Becca Hayton, he ended the affair before confessing to his girlfriend. Lisa was gutted when Becca ended their friendship and Jake admitted that Becca was the only woman he loved and he had used Lisa. Lisa turned to Dan's other best friend Ben Davies for comfort and riled his casual girlfriend Louise Summers who schemed to get her out of his life. She failed as Ben had fallen for Lisa and dumped Louise. Ben declared his love as Lisa was planning to go and stay with Ben's younger sister Abby in Brighton. The two decided to leave the village together to find a place of their own and get away from all their troubles. The two left Hollyoaks behind to appear in their own spin off show, Hollyoaks: Let Loose.

Although the claims turned out to be false, Jamie realised the error of his ways and with the help of sister Jodie, he vowed to change his ways.
- This included running for student president against Chloe Bruce which he won but did the decent thing and gave it up to Chloe who was more serious about the job.
- His new attitude extended to relationships as well. He admitted that despite all of his conquests the only one he genuinely cared for was sexy Becca Hayton. Jamie vowed to win Becca back no matter what. She eventually gave in and got back together with him. For the first time ever Jamie fell in love, but Becca was torn between him and Alex Bell, who had also treated her badly in the past. Jamie was heartbroken when Becca dumped him, but was determined not to give up on the hope of a reconciliation with the only woman he ever loved.
- Jamie won Becca back over time, but tragedy struck on potholing trip with his mates, and Jamie died in hospital from his injuries moments after saying how happy he was with Becca.
- Becca was heartbroken that her boyfriend had died and discovered she was pregnant. Despite Jodie putting pressure on her to keep Jamie's baby, Becca made the hardest decision of her life and had an abortion.
- Jodie Nash - Kate McEnery, 2001-2003
The Osborne-Patrick family
- Jill Patrick Osborne - Lynda Rooke, 1997-2000
- Sol Patrick - Paul Danan, 1997-2001
- Sol arrived in Hollyoaks with his mum Jill, and sisters Kate and Gina. Jill married Jack Osborne and the family moved into the pub, despite the disgust of Jack's snobby children Ruth and Darren.
- Sol had a bad temper and was often flying of the handle and getting into trouble. The discovery that he and Gina were not Jill's biological children sent him off the rails. He stole a car and crashed it almost killing Jill who he had picked up in the passengers seat.
- He spent time in a Young Offenders Institute, and eventually forgave his Mum for hiding the truth from him for so long. He also had short lived romances with Cindy Cunningham and Mandy Richardson but neither lasted long.
- The crushing blow that Jill had terminal cancer sent Sol of the rails again and drove a wedge between him and Gina and Kate, when he went missing and they went to look for him and Jill died. Following Jill's death Sol fell out with Jack and was forced to live rough when he met Jess Holt. She was a young prostitute who he fell for and wanted to help escape her pimp. His sister Kate returned to the village to help Sol find somewhere to stay and heal the rift between Jack and Sol. Sol moved Jess in, but her angry pimp later torched the pub, leaving Sol almost blind.
- When he got out of hospital Sol and Jess confronted her pimp and it turned violent. Jess pushed him from a balcany. He survived but Sol and Jess fled Hollyoaks to avoid more trouble.
- Kate Patrick - Natasha Symms, 1997-2000
- Kate came from a very dysfunctional family. The Patricks were common and had plenty of secrets, all of which at one point came out.
- When their mother Jill married Jack Osborne, Kate, Gina and Sol accuired step siblings in the form of stuck up Ruth and dastardly Darren, who they refused to get on with.
- Ruth's bitchiness toward's her family riled Kate, and as revenge she taught her a lesson she wouldn't forget by seducing and having an affair with her husband Kurt Benson, effectively destroying their marriage.
- Kate earned a reputation in the village as the wicked step sister, but she couldn't have cared less as she had serious family issues to contend with. Firstly her mother admitted that Gina and Sol were not her biological children but had brought them up as her own when their real mother died. The biggest bombshell for Kate was that she had a long lost twin brother, Joe Johnson who she had never known. When Joe arrived in the village Kate rejected him but soon warmed to him. Unfortunately there was an attraction between them which they could not shake and they shared a kiss. Ruth and Carol Groves spread rumours they were having an incestuous affair. Kate exacted revenge by stealing Carol's diary and photocoping pages and sticking them in the phone box for everyone to see. She then gave Ruth laxatives before her house warming party then hid all the toilet paper, then let all her friends and family in and left them to it.
- Joe's feelings for Kate grew stronger by the day, and realising that she couldn't cope with being so close to him anymore, Kate said a tearful goodbye to Jill, Gina Sol and Jack before breaking the news to Joe that she was leaving.
- Kate reappeared a year or so later to help her brother Sol get back on his feet after being made homeless by Jack and for Jill's funeral.
- Gina Patrick - Dannielle Brent, 1997-2001
- Gina arrived in the village with Mum Jill, brother Sol and sister Kate. While all the family were loud and brash, Gina was a little different. Her nose and lip ring made her stand out from the crowd and her passion for the environment saw her become a bit of an eco-warrior.
- She was also very intelligent and did well at college. She went up against her friend Emily Taylor for the editor of the college magazine, but she lost due to step sister Ruth Osborne's hostility towards her family. She even helped sister Kate exact her revenge on Ruth by standing by and watching her drink a drink spiked with laxatives.
- Gina never had a serious boyfriend despite a willing admirerer in Sol's friend Paul Millington. Although he was sweet and obviously adored her, Gina let him down gently. Her sexuality became a big issue, especially when she eventually came out as a lesbian with Emily as her girlfriend.
- Following Jill's death Gina and Emily's relationship went downhill fast. Emily was caught cheating on her, and an upset Gina dumped her and moved back in with stepdad Jack Osborne. After struggling at college, Gina quit and decided to do volunteer work overseas at an orphanage and make her mum proud.

- Natalie Osborne - Tiffany Mulheron, 2003-2004

She annoyed Jack's lodger Izzy Cornwell by stealing her clothes and make up and flirting outrageously with her boyfriend Ben Davies. She also proved to be work shy and, along with cousin Darren, a trouble maker. She made no friends during her time in the village as she was extremely bitchy, and was always trying to steal someone else's boyfriend. He love life was also unpredictable. She shared a dalliance with cousin Darren but rejected his later advances until he got with Debbie Dean. Her jealousy led to a ketchup fight between the girls in the pub before Debbie dumped Darren. By this time Natalie did not want him, and seduced Craig Dean and lost her virginity to him. Her treatment of Craig was mean, and she was taught a lesson by Craig's sisters Debbie and Steph who had both had an intense dislike of Natalie since she arrived. She was horrified when her little sister Rachel arrived and vowed to get rid of her as soon as possible. After weeks of fighting and squabbling, the final straw came when Jack found out about her failing her exams due to the lack of work. Despite using her charms, Jack told Rachel and Natalie that they were being sent home. Rachel was delighted and stroppy Natalie flounced off back to Scotland.

The Sankofa Family
- Andrew Somerville - (Theo Sankofa)
Theo moved to Hollyoaks where he set up the village's first gadget shop. Friendly and well liked, he tragically was killed alongside Jamie during the landslide mini-van incident. (Actor Andrew Somerville was part of the first Hollyoaks:On The Pull campaign to find new young actors to appear in the show. The other three chosen were Marcus Patric (Ben Davies), Lesley Johnston (Laura Burns) and Elize Du Toit (Izzy Cornwell).
- Jamie Luke - (Norman Sankofa)
Theo's younger brother, As a schoolchild Norman was left homeless after his brothers death, a fact he hid for many months from the other members of the series. Jack eventually befriended Norman and took him into his home, much to the annoyance of Jack's son who he consequently had many run ins with. After his A-levels Norman started a brief relationship with Zara, only to vanish off to train as a policeman following in Jack's footsteps.
Others
- Shebah Ronay - (Natasha Anderson)
Natasha was the original blonde babe of the show, and is probably most remembered as being the first character to be killed off in the show.
Natasha was beautiful, pouting and a total princess, who Kurt Benson had fallen for instantly. He pursued her relentlessly, and despite always being attracted to his bad boy charm, Natasha refused to give in and enjoyed playing games with him. This made Kurt even more determined to win her heart.
In a bid to make Kurt jealous, Natasha made the fatal mistake of agreeing to go to the ball with evil Rob Hawthorne. Just as Kurt and Natasha were getting closer at the ball, Rob spiked her drink with ecstasy and soon after Natasha collapsed. Kurt was heart broken when she died, and vowed revenge on Rob.
- Lee Otway - (Bombhead (David Burke))
Bombhead was Lee's best friend, and was introduced into the series as a schoolfriend of Zara, Cameron, Norman, Abby and Lee. Slightly odd, socially inept and occasionally stupid, but with a heart of gold, David frequently misunderstood other characters to comic effect.
Bombhead liked to cook. He became somewhat of an apprentice to Tony, and worked in El Nosh. He was close friends with Gordon Cunningham, who was a father figure for him. He was devastated when Gordon and his wife were killed in a car crash and briefly became a Christian.
When Bombhead's mother died, David suffered a mental breakdown. Unable to accept her death he continued to act as if she was still alive, doing her dry cleaning and cooking her meals. David's only form of comfort during this time was a recurring hallucination of Gordon Cunningham, who would offer advice and try to convince Bombhead to accept what had happened and ask his friends for help. David's mother's body was eventually discovered by Lee Hunter and Stacey. Realising what had happened, Lee and Sally convinced Bombhead to move in with the Hunters. After his mother's funeral, Bombhead stopped seeing visions of Mr Cunningham.
After his mother's death, Bombhead spent considerable time trying to track down his father, a person he only knew through letters his mother had hid from him until her demise. After much effort, it became apparent that he would never succeed. It wasn't until Lee decided to hire a collection of clowns as a fundraising exercise for students at HCC that David would finally meet his father, a clown, of which ironically Bombhead had always suffered an irrational fear.
Bombhead's friendship would finally come to an end when Lee was turned against him by the evil machinations of Chris, although once he found out what Chris was up to, Lee made up with Bombhead. David decided to leave Hollyoaks and join the circus to live with his father. Bombhead mattered so much to Lee, that after Lee's hearing over diverting college funds, during which Chris used Bombhead joining the circus against Lee, he punched Chris square in the face, saying "This is for Bombhead".

He became infatuated with Izzy Cornwell, a storyline that involved Beth running Scott over (and exposing him as a rapist during the ensuing court case,) and a running battle with Ben. Eventually Izzy became friends with Scott, recognising the complex aspect of his character, and finally slept with Scott as a way to end her marriage to Ben. Something of a cross between a mentor and nemesis with his nightclub deputy Darren, Scott left the series after an altercation between the two of them left the club ablaze. He later returned to seek revenge on Darren, only to be caught in the act by the police and set to jail.
