Sideroxylon (syn. Bumelia Sw.) is a genus of flowering plants of the Sapotaceae family.

In his The World as Will and Representation, Vol. I, § 7, Schopenhauer used the word sideroxylon (wood that is like iron) to designate a contradiction or absurdity. It is also used as a name for petrified wood.
