Murrells Inlet is a town located in Georgetown County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,519.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.5 km² (7.5 mi²). 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.26% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,519 people, 2,585 households, and 1,654 families residing in the town. The population density is 290.3/km² (751.8/mi²). There are 3,151 housing units at an average density of 165.8/km² (429.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.59% White, 7.12% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
