Bob Stinson
Bob Stinson (19??-1995) was the founding member and lead guitarist for the legendary post-punk band The Replacements. Stinson formed the band in Minneapolis, MN in 1981 with his younger brother Tommy, then just 14 years old; a year later, Stinson brought in Paul Westerberg on second guitar and vocals.
Stinson's guitar style was strongly influenced by 70's era classic rock and punk. Because of this, and perhaps due to his early dominance of the band, Stinson often served as a creative foil to Westerberg's increasingly pop-leaning sensibilities. The creative tension between the two, and the clearly growing influence of Westerberg in the band is what drives The Replacements first four records, often credited with being their best work.
In 1995, the power struggle reached a breaking point during the recording of Tim, and Stinson was forced out of the band. He later formed Static Taxi with former members of Uptown. They recorded two albums before folding in 1991. Stinson died in 1995.
