A pseudonym is a fictitious name.
- When used by authors, a pseudonym is also called a pen name or nom de plume
- When used by actors, performers, or models, a pseudonym is also called a stage name (or sometimes "screen name")
- Famous pseudonyms of people who were neither authors nor actors include:
- Le Corbusier was Charles Edouard Jeanneret
- Alan Smithee is the only pseudonym allowed by the Directors Guild of America. It is used by movie directors who have been fired or who wish to dissociate themselves from a production. A film about this phenomenon, "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn" (1997) was disavowed by its director Arthur Hiller and released as an Alan Smithee film.
- Nicolas Bourbaki was a famous pseudonym for a group of mathematicians
