Don't you just love my user-name it makes me feel oh so evil, I look the part don't I :) ... but seriously I can't think of a better screen name (and no, I'm not an atheist or satanist). If you want to give me a good suggestion for a new name you can mention it on the discussion page.
About myself:
My name is Joseph. I live in "Sunny" Southern California. I currently attend Orange Coast College and I'm majoring in Business Administration. Supposedly, I'm a descendant of a cousin of Andrew Jackson, at least that's what my father tells me. Ever since I found this site I've either been working on this page or fiddling with others, especially by adding pictures and contributing to lists and links (see bottom of page). In fact, I've made this page sort of an unofficial homepage that has info about me as well as my Wikipedia contributions.
My interests:
- Philosophy: Immanuel Kant, Arthur Schopenhauer, Karl Popper, and other Friesian Philosophers (see below)
- Politics/Economics: I'm a staunch Libertarian[1] and free market advocate. Fellow Libertarians include Larry Elder, Neal Boortz, Harry Browne, Ilana Mercer, and Lew Rockwell. (Note: I can't stand Objectivism. I know Ayn Rand is extremely influential among Libertarians, but I don't care much for her bizarre ethics and metaphysics. I, also, think she stole her arguments against the government from anarchist Lysander Spooner. Personally, I think Objectivism is basically just a cult.)
- Investment/Finance: I do my trading through E-Trade, but for a quick peek at a stock quote I go to Yahoo-Finance. So far I like index funds such as QQQ, DIA, and SPY, mostly because there good for novices such as myself. There are also good mutual funds at ishares.com
- The Arts and Entertainment: Fine Art, Star Trek (I prefer Next Gen. myself), Married...With Children, Highlander: The Series, Dark Shadows, The Simpsons, Death Metal, Black Metal, Ambient, Classical Music, Opera, New Age, Gothic, Progressive Rock
- Books: The Machinery of Freedom by David Friedman
"Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the oftener and more steadily we reflect on them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me."
Immanuel Kant, Critique of Practical ReasonFriesian Philosophy is a continuation of the Kantian/Critical tradition which covers areas such as Epistemology[2], Metaphysics[3], Ethics[4], Value Theory[5], and Political Economics[6], as well as other areas of philosophy[7]. Members of the Kantian/Friesian school include Immanuel Kant[8], Arthur Schopenhauer[9], Jakob Fries[10], Leonard Nelson[11], Karl Popper[12], Rudolf Otto[13], Carl Jung[14], F. A. Hayek[15] among others. This philosophy is an excellent alternative to the nihilistic and relativistic aspects of contemporary philosophy, as well as the positivism and naturalism that dominates current academic circles. The Proceedings of the Friesian School-Fourth Series is edited by Kelley L. Ross, Ph.D.
