Wikipedia:Requests for investigation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by JohnOwens (talk | contribs) at 15:33, 7 April 2003 (explaining previous edit). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The purpose of this page is to provide instant notice of vandalism taking place. You can use the format under the Current Alerts heading: IP address, pages touched, damage done. If you don't want to call attention to your report, be sure to check the box marked "this is a minor edit" (so it won't show up in most users' recent changes).

For a list of currently blocked IPs and the reason why they were blocked, visit: Special:Ipblocklist.

If you would like to look up information about the vandal's IP please visit http://network-tools.com/ and enter in the IP.

However, please do not label isolated instances of text deletions, replacements or odd additions as VANDALISM unless they are overtly lewd or offensive. More often than not, this is just a visitor to the site experimenting with how to use it -- labeling them as a VANDAL is a sure way of ensuring they will not become contributors. Only add alerts to this page of true VANDALISM such as a systematic attack on several articles. Above all, please be polite at first and give the person the benefit of the doubt until they prove they deserve otherwise.

If you disagree with someone's edits, please see the following pages:

  • The "Ptolemaic" vandal is back, this time as username Alicef2t2004. -- Someone else 19:57 Apr 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • I think it would be a good idea for a sysop to lock these pages for a bit in their unvandalized states, as this user's obsession results in difficult-to-undo misinformation being inserted in the Wikipedia. -- Someone else
    • More: The nick Alicef2t2004 is also used in a page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Silver_Moon/message/763 by a person with what appear to be similar interests.
      • I'm sure it's the same person, yesterday he uploaded a word file (calling it a picture file) that dealt with a Silver Moon persona to the wikipedia, either as Ponyf2t or 216.39.137.110. -- Someone else 20:19 Apr 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • He is now vandalising the article and writing more phoney ones as 216.39.137.110. I have done three revertions in five minutes. HELP!
  • Weezer is vandalising Talk:Crass again. I thought he was banned now? quercus robur 09:27 Apr 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • He is - his accounts have been locked. But although he signed as "Weezer" he wasn't logged in and was editing from an unbanned IP (205.188.209.139). If he continues editing from this IP we can block it for a while - but it is an AOL number so, as I understand it, he won't often get the same number again -- sannse 10:25 Apr 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • which the address of an AOL proxy so blocking this address may result in many users being blocked -- F1lby 16:25 Apr 7, 2003 (UTC)
      • Note: I pasted the end of Sannse's quote above back where it was after F1lby chopped it off and put his own name & attribution there; that's why it may look like I was trying to pass my comments off as someone else's. -- John Owens 15:33 Apr 7, 2003 (UTC)
  • Perhaps it is time to block 216.39.137.110 who's been posting nonsense about the Ptolemies and hypothetical Cleopatras for a while now? -- Someone else 23:56 Apr 4, 2003 (UTC)
I second the motion. -- John Owens 00:06 Apr 5, 2003 (UTC)
Now he's gone and gotten a login and moved the Ptolemaic dynasty page to the horribly named & spelled Plolemic dynasty in the future. :p -- John Owens 01:21 Apr 5, 2003 (UTC)
Ongoing vandalism both as 216.39.137.110 and Ponyf2t (uploading word documents, moving (Ptolemy) pages, creating fictious entries, biographies of people with lifespans of thousands of years... really requires sysop/developer attention, it is increasingly difficult to assure his damage is being undone. -- Someone else 02:57 Apr 5, 2003 (UTC)
Yup, I second it. The fellow has a fetish or something on the Cleopatra and Ptolemy era.
I third (?) it. He has written nothing of substance. -- goatasaur
agree. That person is obsessed with the era. -- kt2
Once Wikipedia came back online, I cleaned it up, moved Ptolemaic dynasty back where it belongs (edit history & talk intact), eliminated all those new Cleopatras he created, checked that none of his *ahem* embellishments remained in the real articles that are left. Hopefully, no babies were thrown out, but that was an awful lot of bathwater. :\ -- John Owens 12:07 Apr 6, 2003 (UTC)
  • [213.249.155.231] has vandalised numerous articles, including list of people. His contributions are here --whkoh 4 Apr 03 11:31 UTC
  • Michael/Weezer is back as 67.121.168.185, and adding more horribly mangled English to articles. His user contributions are here. -- goatasaur
    • Jeez. That guy has more identities than Saddam Hussein has lookalikes. STÓD/ÉÍRE
