Escape from New York is a film directed by John Carpenter. The film stars Kurt Russell as the anti-hero Snake Plissken, a role he was to reprise in the sequel, Escape from LA. Set in a dystopic future Manhattan of 1997, now serving as a maximum security prison, Plissken is charged with rescuing the hijacked US president (played by Donald Pleasance from the hands of the murderous inmates.
