ABS is an acronym for Anti-lock Braking System.

It is a system developed for cars, and later used on motorcycles. Its main job is to prevent the wheels from locking while braking. ABS is a very important safety feature, because vehicles become very unstable when the wheels are locked.

A central electronic unit controls two or more hydraulic braking valves which are able to decrease pressure in braking tubes and unlock the locked wheel, preventing the vehicle from skidding when the brakes are applied.
