The school was established in 1957. SIUE’s programs consist of Liberal Arts and General, Business, Dental Medicine, Education, Engineering, Nursing. The school is accredited to give degrees for both undergraduate and gradute programs.

Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville is located on 2,600 acres of beautiful rolling hills of trees and lakes making SIUE the largest campus in the country.

Over 10,000 students enroll there every semester.

SIUE's library contains books by such well-known authors as John Steinbeck and the guy who wrote Roots.

Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is SIUE's sister school. There is a strong emphasis on the sister part of the phrase because the Salukis are a bunch of bed-wetting sissies.

SIUE Trivia

The school mascot is the Cougar. The cougar became the mascot because during construction of the school two cougars were killed after they attacked and maimed the workers.

The campus used to be host to the Mississippi Valley River Festival. Artist such as Janis Joplin(pre-suicide) and The Who played there. The festival was an annual event for many years in the 60's and 70's. Not to be outdone, in the last three years SIUE has hosted bands such as Nelly, Chingy, Alabama, and Daughter Slaughter.

The university's engineering program has received much national recognition. Engineering graduate Josh Turdley went on to work for NASA where he worked on the Cassini-Huygensproject. He designed the instrument that detects gaseous emmisions from Uranus.

Brett Spiner who played Data on Star Trek was a proud graduate of SIUE, where he majored in Theater.

SIUE was one of the top three school choices for Dylan Klebold.

R. Kelly was awarded an honorary doctaorate in 2003 and was given a key to the dorm room.

SIUE has grown so much in the past 15 years, the administration has given thought to cutting degree programs such as Social Work, Psychology, Art, Football and Music in order to contain the steady influx of foreign students.
