English copy and grammar edits

Hi Kapeter77, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia, your efforts are appreciated! I noticed that lately you have been making copy edits to several articles, making changes in fine points of grammar and word choice. I'm concerned though, that your facility with English may not quite be up to the level required for that kind of detailed work. I have had to revert or rewrite a number of the changes you've made recently. Although they have sometimes included improvements, there have also been a lot of unnecessary changes that are not improvements, or actually made things worse, having introduced numerous awkward constructions and sometimes very conspicuous errors in English.

There are many other areas of Wikipedia that would also benefit from your energy, such as researching and adding citations, checking facts, and adding new material. If you write new, well-sourced and encyclopedic material, and there are some errors in the English, then other editors are generally happy to help fix them. On the other hand, making changes to existing material written by a native speaker that is not itself really problematic, in ways that actually make the English worse, will be rather less appreciated. If you really do want to do copy editing for grammar and composition, you might consider doing it in smaller edit sizes, with descriptive edit summaries of why you have made the change, rather than making one large edit with many unexplained changes. Perhaps try to restrict your changes to things that seem very obviously wrong to you. Another possibility is to make changes in a sandbox in your user area, and ask a native English speaker to proofread it before posting it to a "live" article. One other thing, please read MOS:DUPLINK, and avoid making duplicate links, thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 22:02, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
